Boat shopping and went to the boat show today in lake chuck. Looked at all three listed in the title. Is one better than the other? Opinions? Reviews? Looking at 24-26' with the 200 or 250 Yamaha.

Looked at a blackjack too. Worth looking at more?

Can someone tell me something about these new robocop lookin, evinrudes? Strange looking stuff. Seems like a lot of computer stuff under the cowling. No gauges just a screen with a shite load of readouts.

Save you some money. New Evinrudes are 1000 times better since they have been bought out by the snow mobile guys. Everyone has heard they story about when they went the factory they rejected 80% of the part as they didn't meet their tolerances etc. That said, Go with Yamaha everyday and twice on Sundays.

If those Evinrudes are that new, I would avoid.
Just an opinion from an old computer guy.

IMO only:
nautic star has a nice ride and layout. guide/neighbor i know has one and has been happy.
blue wave's, i never understood the hype with them. not a bad ride but parts of the hull are "single hull" design. i had a BAD experience w/ a baypro years ago built like that.
pathfinders ive been on have a pretty good ride and nice on fuel but storage left something to be desired.
just my .02, maybe meajeaux2 will chime in. hes pretty good on this topic

Never heard of anyone unhappy with a Pathfinder or a Blackjack. But doesn't the Blackjack only come in 22'?

What kind of fishing do you plan on using it for most of the time?

What is most important to you? Ride in choppy water, fuel efficiency, shallow water capabilities?

And what kind of budget?

For the sake of this conversation, let's leave budget out of it.

We fish all over southwest Louisiana from big lake to Sabine and all points in between. This boat won't be trailered (much) though. It will sleep in our slip by the salt water barrier and will make runs down the channel to prien lake, Big Lake, west cove and black lake. Wouldn't mind something that would handle some skinnier water too but we're not looking for flats or skiffs.

Also would like to be able to pull the kids on a tube on occasion but I don't see that being a problem for any of the three we looked at today.

I was really looking to see if one brand of the three I mentioned was better than the others. The blue wave looks to be better in the comfort column while the pathfinder looks to be a bit more fishy (for lack of a better word)). The nautic star seems to fall in the middle.

Sounds like any of the three mentioned will meet your needs. I would own any one of them.

I would probably have to give the Pathfinder the edge over the other 2 on overall quality of boat. The pathfinder will certainly carry the highest price of those three.

I think it will just come down to prefence.

Do you have dealers in close proximity of where you will be storing the boat? Having a close dealer for service work so you don't have to haul the thing across the state would be a factor for me.

Jerry's Marine, here in sulphur, sells and services the Nautic Star and Blue Wave. The Pathfinder dealer and service center is in Beaumont (hour away). Didn't even think about that.

Pathfinder by a good bit for me, then Nautic Star, then in the far back of the three Blue wave.

I don't have much to chime in, but the guys I know who fish out of pathfinders are fairly serious about the sport.

The two guys I know with blackjacks are filthy rich and the boats just hang in the slips all year, never used.

I see a few nautic stars her and there, yet I've never had the opportunity to ride in one. I just sold an 1801 Parker which was a hellova right. The 4 stroke yammy 115 was a beast and never gave me any problems.

Why put Blue Wave so far back?

Blue Wave seems to vary in opinion the most. Everything I've read puts them on the exact same level as boats like Nautic Star and Blazer Bay. Then you get some people that say they are better and some that say they are terrible. Why?

On the OP's list, I'd probably rank them: 1) Pathfinder 2a) Blue Wave 2b) Nautic Star.

And,just FYI, that is relying mostly on what I've read online. We have a BW Purebay 2200 and are happy with it. The 2400 is a gorgeous boat that seems very fishable and well equipped.

I have an '05 Nautic Star Bay 2200.

Unfortunately, I haven't rode in either of your other two choices, so I can't compare. Based on reputation, the Pathfinder is supposed to be better. You might do a search on thehulltruth.com. Seems there have been some issues as of late.

I like our NS, and if I were buying a new boat, I'd consider one again.

The only boat that I've ridden in recently, the same size, was a Ranger. The Ranger seemed much heavier, and seemed to ride better than my NS. It was a super smooth weekend so it wasn't tested much, but I certainly noticed a difference.

I came away from that weekend thinking that my next boat would be a heavier one. Thanks for reminding me of that! Of course, a 24' would be heavier. (although our NS doesn't ride "light")

One other thing. I've been considering a 24' Sea Hunt BXR (I think). We looked at them a few weeks ago at Bent Marine. They're pretty boats, and I like the hull design, but I'm not sure the quality matched that of our NS. And the consensus comment on the Sea Hunt is "a very nice boat for the money." Hmmm... I kinda want a "nice boat, period."

Enjoy your search!

ETA: Based on my thoughts, I'd look at the dry weights of each of the boats you're considering. It may or may not be an indication of quality and/or ride quality.

Just sold my 2011 PF 2400TE due to having 2 kids 14mths apart. Didnt have time to use it and it just sat in my shed. I shopped PF and NS. Rode in a BW last year.

I would buy another PF in a heartbeat, smooth and dry ride, handles chop very well. LOTS of room. Storage was....avg I guess you could say. I loved it. Mainly inshore fished, took it 35mi out a couple times without any problems.

Looked at a NS around the same time, didnt seem to have the fit and finish as the PF but seemed like a nice boat. The BW i rode in was very nice but seemed kind of over priced. Mabye Im just particular to the PF, but I would Highly recommend it. If I still had it I'd def let you take it out so you could comparte.. Bought it from Mt. Houstom Marine but i want to say there is a dealer in new orleans. There is a certified repair shop in Cutoff aswell if you need to have it serviced. Hope this helps and good luck

Looking at a NS 231 Coastal/Angler now. (Same boat, different cosmetic options)

I noticed that max HP was 200.

Great layout and was probably the best design I've seen for leisure and fishing.

Well equipped at about $50K. I want to look throughly at one at the boat show and compare it with Scout and a few others.

You're spot on about the Ranger being heavier. The NS seemed right around the same weight as others in class, though.
