To make it where absolutely no one speeds on the Causeway? Yeah, it probably will take 20-24.

To be as effective as an airplane flying overhead? You can probably do it with 8 or less.

They've already (usually) got at least one actively patrolling and they'll stick one at the ends (where the speed limit drops) a lot of times. People already slow down at the crossovers (of which there are 6, I believe) so I don't think you need to blanket the Causeway to put a major crimp in speeding.

A guy in Flordia was driving around with a jammer in his car:

quote:

MetroPCS discovered that a blue Toyota Motor Corp. (TYO:7203) Highlander SUV was transmitting the signals and appeared to be jamming fellow motorists. But despite its data, the FCC was unable to convince local authorities to track down the driver for some time.

quote:

Earlier this year, however, two Hillsborough County Sherriff’s deputies pulled over the owner of the vehicle – 60-year-old Jason R. Humphreys -- for a traffic offense. When approaching the vehicle their two-way radios were disconnected from the dispatcher. The officers correctly identified something was wrong, and asked to search the vehicle.

quote:

They found Mr. Humphreys possessed a jamming device hidden behind his seat that was capable of locally blocking three bands commonly used for cell phones and radios. At that point Mr. Humphreys came clean, admitting he had purchased the device with the intention of committing a bit of vigilante justice on his daily commute.

Did that jammer have the ability to allow calls out to certain numbers?

That is what I was implying sounds made up.

Seems like that would cause people to keep fumbling with their phones because they aren't working

There's nothing magical about them. Next time you're a passenger on the Causeway (because I wouldn't want you to be another distracted driver) take a look at what's on top of those tall masts. Cameras.

Eh, you could put up a sign at both ends saying cell phone jammers are in place

Or they could use speed cameras?

I guess I'll just have to take your word about their existence, their purpose and the quality of the resolution.

However, one thing I will not debate is that if these things are being monitored then the monitors aren't doing a great job. There's a lot going on out there that seems to be slipping through the net.

"If they see anyone that is going a bit too fast, they are going to contact their associates down on the deck, and the guys on the deck will stop them and say, 'You know what, you're going a little bit too fast on the causeway,'" Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Commission Executive Director Carlton Dufrechou said. "'And here's your ticket.'"

Interesting. If you contest the ticket, are they going to have both officers in court? If they only have the cop who gives you the ticket, then his testimony about how fast you were going is hearsay. If they only have the cop who was in the airplane, then his testimony that you were driving the car and were given the ticket is hearsay.

As a daily driver of the Causeway, this does not bother me one single bit.

And those things would do a lot more for public safety than catching a 73 MPHer.

The Causeway used to be fairly strict on speed. The rep was anything over 5 was going to get you a ticket.

Now, their (Commission) sole existence is to spend as much money as quickly as possible.
In typical Louisiana fashion, we do nothing about it.

Question. In the legal sense. How can Officer A(in plane) tell officer B(in Tahoe on side of road looking at child porn) that someone is speeding and based I'm guessing on a color description of the vehicle and Officer B who did not see the crime write me a ticket? How this money grab work?

Speeders are not the problem on the causeway.

It is the people who go insane because someone is in the left lane going 65 (indicated) and won't switch to the right lane to let me by or wont pass.

I am your problem. And your solution. Listen to me and all will be well.

Definitely not the case anymore. I reverse commute the causeway on the reg and I set my cruise at 72 mph the entire time, never slowing down at crosswalks and have never received a ticket/had them flash their lights at me/etc.

They write both officer's names on the ticket and where it has check boxes for laser or radar and the SN of the unit, they just write "plane" or "VASCAR" in that blank. I don't keep my tickets, but I got one two years ago and that's what it had on it

I went over at 51,000 ft today but it was hard to catch the speeders.
