Air patrols over the Causeway Bridge will begin this week.

The Louisiana State Police will have airplanes patrolling the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway within the next couple of weeks.

A Louisiana State Police spokesperson said crews have finished installing signs and markings notifying drivers of the new enforcement measure, which was necessary to complete before air patrols began.

While it was unclear when exactly the air enforcement would begin, the LSP said it would be immediately. Currently, the LSP is coordinating with the Causeway Police Department to set up patrols with the pilots.

I saw the signs when I went across today.

Gingers are getting shot, and we are worried about speeding?

Seems like a exercise in diminishing returns.

Hopefully this stops them from air patrolling the basin bridge.

Annoying. Yeah, since all the crime is cleared up in the city, let's worry about someone doing 7 miles over the limit.

To be fair, LSP doesn't have much to do with the city and its crime rate.

It seems like the Causeway has an abundance of patrol vehicles and overfed collectors to drive them.

Why not just trim doughnut breaks to 3x per hour and issue more tickets?

Biggest waste of tax $ ever. What ever fricking idiot signed off on this should be fired and made to repay his/her salary. You are talking a couple grand easy just to put the bird in that air and thats being generous.

probably done for public safety and not a revenue stream.

After the first few times it will act as a deterrent. Something needs to be done to cut down on the accidents and this is probably the cheapest option.

I assume they'll fly it on random days at random times. That way people don't know which days it is there and which days it isn't.
