Seems like Django is now the opposite of Basterds.
At the time of their release, Basterds was a letdown and Django was a masterpiece.
As time has passed, Basterds gets more praise and Django gets less praise.
I still love Django though. At least up until the final 30 min. The scenes with Calvin Candie are perfection.

I really wanted to like it too... I thought I'd love it when I read the plot, cast, etc. but I didn't think it was anything special either.. I ended up redboxing it to give it another try but it's just not that good.

Tarantino's worst, for sure. Except for death proof, maybe

Thought Django was generally cast well. Loved Foxx, Dicaprio and Waltz.
Not Tarantino's best, but a solid flick overall. However, it's very low on the rewatchability scale.

The bags scene made me laugh like no one since Mel Brooks had made me laugh.

I enjoyed it. Good modern Clint Eastwood style western with a slave twist.
I thought the use of the N-word was over the top. Not in amount of usage but how it was used. Best example being Django and Candie scene on horse about what to do with slave they eventually turn dogs on. "He's yo' n-----". I feel the word was just used more matter of factly. Not as negative as it was in the scene. Don Johnson's use of it is perfect. As is Samuel Jackson. It just rolls off the tongue. I'm sure it did in the 1850's south.
But I enjoyed the movie. I want Dr. Schultz beard and mustache. I just want to pull at my sat he like that when I talk or am deep in thought.

Over the top? What's over the top about a dude on top of a staircase shooting a guy on the bottom floor off he feet, through the doorway?

Overrated bullshite revenge porn. Tarantino's schtick is played out. Has been for years.

My favorite QT movies:
1. Kill Bill 2
2. Pulp Fiction
3. Django
4. Kill Bill 1
5. Jackie Brown
6. Dusk till Dawn
7. IB
I'm not trying to shite on you for having an opinion, but seeing Inglorious Basterds behind DtD, KB1/2, and Django just doesn't sit right with me

The issue with Tarantino movies is they can't be liked in mainstream audience. It has to feel like a cult following. If it feels like a cult following, like pulp fiction or kill bill, people say they love them, but if it has a mainstream following and does well, it's too well accepted and the movie gets torn up by the "cult Tarantino followers". DU is a damn good movie and it doesn't matter that it's more mainstream

I wasn't impressed honestly. DiCaprio was great in it

i love tarantino for the most part, but i thought kill bill 1 was awful( i didn't even finish it) and i never saw part 2.
django was good/very good, but dragged on too long. I agree that basterds was a much better movie.

I just thought it was pretty good when I saw it the theater, but it got better each time I watched it . I had pretty much the same reaction to IB, and IB is now my favorite QT movie and possibly my favorite movie ever. The over the top shooting scenes and blood flying in Django makes me laugh every time, but in a good way. I'd say Django and Pulp Fiction are a toss up for my #2 QT movie behind IB.

I thought dicaprio was great in DU. The dinner scene was greatness but the shootout afterwards was just plain laughable.

schultz should have just walked up to candies house and offered $12,000 dollars or whatever because he wanted a german speaking slave... boom, story over
I was thinking this the whole time. Shultz just says something like "what if a farmer won't sell you his horse?" What? Make him a ridiculous offer.

Another problem I had with that plan, why does Candie get mad when he figures it out? This guy offers him well above market value for his third best fighter to gain access to a problem house slave who he would also likely pay well above market value for. Remember when we first meet Hildy she was in the hot box for trying to escape. Candie stood to make a huge profit and get rid of a problem slave and he gets mad about it? Doesn't make any sense.

Are you stupid? They had no intention of buying the mandingo. The plan was to agree to buy him but leave town to bring back a doctor who would give him a physical. They buy Hilde before leaving town and never return.

Can't say how giddy I am to finally see so many people realizing & admitting that this movie is not all that good.
