first off, I come in peace. I love Tarantino and pulp fiction and IB are two of my all time favs

I just got around to watching django all the way through(I know, long story- had a kid and no life for past 18 months) and I had the following thoughts. curious what the board thought

I couldn't wait to watch it and wanted to love it so bad, but afterwards my wife and I both agreed that it was ok, just nothing special.

it was VERY over the top which I know is the point but still. I just didn't think the story and script was that great. LOVED the cast and acting but the story kind of dragged a lot. all the over the top blood and gore and stuff didn't bother me that much, just thought it was unnecessary.

overall I gave it a B, just remember people on here saying it was his best work and saw people put it ahead of Pulp fiction and Jackie Brown and IB and that's a huge head scratcher for me.

It should have been cut into two movies like Kill Bill. The whole plan to get Brumhilda was stupid. Most of the second half was pretty stupid actually. Good acting performances by Waltz, Dicaprio, and Jackson though.

Django was the movie everyone was expect to gush over that year, sorta like Unbroken is right now. I liked it ok but it was too long, and like others said the first half is much better.

the plan to save the girl really was stupid. if she was that important to django, schultz should have just walked up to candies house and offered $12,000 dollars or whatever because he wanted a german speaking slave... boom, story over. they had plenty of money

The only part I care to watch is when Samuel L Jackson comes out of the big house to greet Mr. Candie and gets all mad that this here n***a is going to sleep in da big house?! And the dinner scene.

Tarantino's worst, for sure. Except for death proof, maybe

I agree. My least favorite Tarantino movie. But I'm not surprised the masses loved it.

Hard to gauge critics

They hated unbroken but everyone I know who has seen it has loved it

I agree with OP. Ok movie with over the top gore/action. Not a terrible watch, but not in my top QT flicks.

I found it completely adsurd that Samuel L Jackson's character was able to tell Jamie Foxx's character and his slave wife knew each other. There was really no tell other than some stares. That kind of diminished the film for me but overall I thought it was pretty decent.

Not hard. They have more than likely seen waaaayyyyyy more films than the average moviegoer. So, movies that don't really try anything different rarely impress them. Plus, they are (more or less) skilled at analyzing movies that goes beyond "It was good. The acting was great but the story was a little ham-fisted."

I watched it last month. The MTV board lowered my expectations significantly because of which I really enjoyed it. It's all about those expectations.
