We hunt weekends usually but hunt 2 blinds. Typically 3 people per blind. So through the first four weekends and then this past weekend we have killed around 300 birds or so. Mostly greys greenheads teal redheads and jacks. 19 hunts have been made so far with around a 16 duck average per hunt. So it's been consistent as hell.

Amazing year so far. Mostly public land with the exception of 3 hunts. I will also +1 for the set-up. As the season lengthens, I step back and analyze the set-up. I also 86 electronic decoys after opening weekend and use other techniques throughout the season.

This morning was slow, but we had 80% of everything we saw come our way. We are still hunting out of the boat, but that soon will change.

Its been decent for me. Missed out on opening morning due to trespassers so that sucked. Least amount killed in a trip was 3 on a hot day with no wind. Barely killed any teal which is weird for me.

Pretty bad here. All public land. 4 hunts:
Hunt #1- 2 man limit
Hunt #2- 1 woody
Hunt #3- scratch
Hunt #4- 1 woody, could have killed mergansers but did not feel like messing with them.
The Corps is always late pumping, so there are a ton of people on about 1/2 of what should be flooded.

Im not far from you, but the struggle has been real. My biggest complaint is the lack of ducks we've seen. Can't kill what you don't see

Great.
Hunted 14 times this year and killed limits on each hunt. Ranging from 2-4 ppl on each of those hunts. Mainly ringnecks and bwt with grays and canvasbacks taken regularly also.

I'm in Terrebonne parish.

X10

I could understand if I was seeing ducks and couldn't get them to commit. But there are literally no ducks. And I've been all over the southern part of the state. It's really just a crapshoot and being lucky on deciding where I want to hunt. I've gotten to the point of just flipping coins.

How's this for bad?

Last year I paid $1,000 for a spot in a lease. Only killed 4 ducks, I would rather be back in that lease this year. At least last year was a committing problem and not a numbers problem.

I've had some good hunts, but overall it's been the worst season we've had in the last 10 years or so.

Our best hunt had 3 birds by 8, then between 9 and 11 th most mallards I have ever left a blind with.

Warm dry weather has reduced the peripheral wetlands that are lightly hunted but hold birds

Also after that initial arctic blast its been mild in the mid west.

Common denominators between folks I see killing ducks
Are they still and hidden in the blind(from above) do their deke spreads look real...

Ducks do different things and group differently as things change.

I have no problem spending 45 minutes adducing dekes to changing conditions

How many of you glass the ducks in your area?

But you have to have ducks too....

One of the places that was a slam dunk for us last year is a total bust this year....

Another thing I noticed on the last day of the first split was less Dekes the better. I hunt a pothole marsh and I switched to only 8 mallard decoys and have done really well

As far as glassing goes: unfortunately the ducks in the areas I hunt are pretty concealed and very difficult to access. It's tough to watch them, although I do try to do some jump shooting from time to time, and I get to watch the birds on the water then.

That being said, I intend to change up my tactics in the future, and may be trying to hunt some more open water.

Watching birds from afar with binocs. Definitely need to mimick what the birds are doing in your area.

I've been on 10 trips or so and had mostly good hunts. The 2 lesser trips I've had this season was in the SE marsh and I had a buddy with his kid who couldn't wait till they turned on. Would have killed 6-10 more birds one of those days for sure.

My hunts in Cenla ag fields have been pretty strong. Been passing on lots of bootlips and shooting teal and grays with some pintail and mallards mixed in. Also shot my two specks last Sunday...love killing specks over the dekes.

Heading out for a white lake lottery hunt in the am. Got some high expectations.
