Did you know if you pass that gay side and go across Esplanade it's one of the coolest areas of the city with kick arse live music? Check out the Marigny one night.

That's a long walk, but yes I have heard that. Have made the walk to Esplanade once for the Port of Call burger. But that was near 10 years ago and daylight.

That reminds me there was a pretty notable murder/robbery outside that restaurant almost twenty years ago when three local thugs shot a guy on a date, don't think that one was ever solved.

Actually I think the opposite. I lived in the Quarter for 2 years, moved out, and now I just moved back literally 2 days ago. I love it.

Just this past week in Lafayette I spoke on the radio about the Lafayette media's obsession with promoting New Orleans as a "destination city" to entice cajun fans to the New Orleans Bowl. My words were simple
"New Orleans is a destination city of you are clueless and live in Minnesota. But, if you are from Lafayette, it's nothing more than 2 hours driving to get drunk and robbed'
I was on Canal last night going to a restaurant and the street was packed with ULL people who fortunately weren't as stupid as you.

And I'm glad redneck retarded asses like you generally stay out of the city. Educated tourist from around the world come to N.O. for great food, architecture, museums, theatre, and great bars, etc. And not the kind of bars where clueless punkasses walk around with big green drinks in plastic cups.

Jesus man. I'm glad you have enjoyed yourself in the past, but next time you go, if you do, consult the Food and Drink Board

Hey man.... Easy...
You have to have a Hurricane which leads to the drink you mention, the Hand Grenade. Gotta do it once. I of course had a much better time at the Carousel Bar in Monteleone. Love bars on Royal. There aren't many and are only a block away. But they are the difference in cargo shorts and slacks. If a slacks crowd is what you are looking for.
I LOVE New Orleans. Every time I stumble or at times walk through a carriageway I always think to myself how awesome it is that this is not for show. A century or three ago horses and carriages actually HAD TO USE this carriageway. It's not there to be cute or decorative. It's just still there.

Public execution is the only real answer...

Crime anywhere is bad, but crime in the tourist areas has a chance to really harm New Orleans economically. They have to get the FQ safe or the city as a whole will really suffer.
In general people will be okay if they stay in the busy parts, but the truth is there is a ton of crime in NOLA. While the murder rate has actually been going down the last several years, it is still really high, and other types of violent crime are also really high.
They have been trying to expand the police force but are short handed and criminals know that.

First you have to make arrests, law enforcement in the city is generally incapable of this feat. And when the cops do try to enforce petty crime they are branded as brutal.
If they are arrested the juries of their peers are more sympathetic to the perpetrators. Why would one even want to work for the prosecutors office in this city.
I think it has come to the point that the city charter should be revoked and the municipality managed by the State of Louisiana

My wife and I were staying in the quarter last Saturday night after a show at the house of blues. We never saw one police officer anywhere in the FQ, ever, the entire night.

I'm beginning to think the mayor and police chief are deliberately trying to foster chaos so the federal government will either relax the consent agreements or try to get more federal money so they can pilfer it.

I understand your exaggerating to make a point. But point well taken...NOPD will hire anyone. And it makes the legit cops just want to quit because of the stupidity they have currently.

New Orleans can't spare the resources from its criticial zoning, planning commissions, neighborhood development and permits departments, to try to address the crime problem.

While some of those groups and the people in them are idiots, I don't think not having them would change the crime problem or help the NOPD in any way.
And I do bitch about those folks some, but it sure beats the alternative of letting people build what they want, where they want, with no infastructure planning, etc. In the cool places like Livingston Parish, they build shite and worry later about how to deal with traffic, flooding, etc. And who cares about how an area looks or anything.

A tweet a week ago from the mayor.
Yet the mayor continues to pander to the degenerates in the city.

Not really exaggerated. I frequent a bar with one 28 year old NOPD cop that is just a regular guy. Wouldn't have any idea he was a cop unless you knew him. Works in Central City, and for some reason, he doesn't want to transfer to LSP or anywhere else. Weird, I know.
IIRC, only like 20% of the murders in New Orleans get solved. If there is anywhere to practice snake throwing, it's in the chocolate city.
Step 1: Hide rattler in watermelon
Step 2: Put watermelon in street
Step 3: Take phone out and start recording vertically
Step 4: Hilarity ensues
Step 5: Yell "World Star!" and post video on WSHH
