Caught the gun bug - question about used guns

I feel like buying guns used from large gun suppliers online yields the best value. Any tips/recommendations for what to look out for when buying used guns?
And I don't know whether to or now that I've been bitten by the gun bug

I think a lot of people here have used gunbroker.com. Personally I never have, I like to at least handle the gun before I buy.

I don't trust gunbroker.

IMO established message boards (especially tight knit ones) are the best. Be it local outdoor/hunting boards, brand-specific gun boards, etc.
You'll get fairer pricing, and you can easily vet folks (10k post guys who've sold 50 guns on the forum aren't going to disappear with you money). Also, the dedicated posters are generally capable firearms users and take good care of their stuff. You can also find a lot of harder to find stuff on brand specific boards.

I'm not talking FSBO, I'm talking about used guns sold on sites like CDNN Sports
I'm always paranoid about buying FSBO online -- especially since I'm newer to guns

I've bought plenty through gunbroker. Never had a problem, never been disappointed.

some times these are police weapons and several thousand rounds put through them.
Just have to be careful of that.

I've caught the same bug, looking for a shotgun. Have it narrowed down to Benelli SBE2 and beretta A400.

Either would be a great choice. Both owned by Beretta.

Any tips/recommendations for what to look out for when buying used guns?
1. I've bought numerous (and sold a few) used firearms on GunBroker. You have to use some "common sense" in looking at the seller's feedback rating.
If he's only sold three items, I'd be leery, irrespective of his rating. But if he's sold hundred's, and has an A+ rating, you can probably rely on his description of the gun's condition.
2. Pay with VISA card or some other credit card. If you find that the seller misrepresented the gun's condition, or if you never receive the gun, just dispute the charges. Paying a 3% CC fee (which many sellers now waive), is cheap insurance.
3. If you're buying a used handgun, get a Glock. The factory warranty extends to you, irrespective of who the original owner was, how many owners the gun has had, and how many rounds have been fired through it. After you get it, send it to Glock -- they'll inspect it, replace any worn parts and replace any outdated parts -- at no charge.

i'll second this. although for the record, i live in california and we have the strictest gun laws, and for legal reasons(many of the gun laws don't apply to private party transfers) its actually more advantageous to purchase a used gun from another person. so my opinion might be skewed because i actually would prefer to buy a used gun even when a new gun is the same price.

I almost never buy a new gun. In fact, the last new gun I bought was my 9mm Shield. I love shotguns and find most of mine at pawn shops. If you do your research and know what you're looking for you can find some good deals. I've gotten some good deals from armslist.com also. Some guys refuse to ship guns though. I guess they don't want to fool with the FFL process. Generally find better prices there than on Gunbroker. Just my experience anyway.

Glocks have a lifetime warranty?

Not usually the case with police weapons. Last year at a gun show I saw a Mossberg 590A1 sitting in a dealer's rack with a price tag of $350.00.
It was in great shape, it appears it had only been lightly used, probably mostly only for occasional range qualification. Most of the time it sat in the police cruiser gun rack, as evidenced by the wear on the parkerized finish on the barrel.
I told my brother, "If you don't snap that up, I will."
Seeing as I already had one, he took the hint.
