What should I bring? I can't think of anything that will travel on a plane that would be worth bringing from LA that we can't already get up there.

I mean, Tony's, Zapp's, Sweet Baby Ray's are all over the place...

Zapp's sounds good. Have you thought of shipping frozen products from Tony's Seafood? Boudin, crawfish boudin, andouille, crawfish stuffed chicken, ect.

My TFA and Americore Yankee friends or together a few weeks ago and everyone was to bring a different sausage to grill Kielbasa, brats, and knockworst. Pretty boring until I busted out some boudin and crawfish boudin.

A Christmas themed king cake (preferably Hadel's) ftw, although you'd be at the mercy of the baggage handlers.

Cracklins.

Those beads that are everywhere in the quarter featuring your favorite NY sports team's logo. Would make a nice novelty Christmas gift for friends or family.

Or I'd carefully wrap a couple of bottles or cans of beer in the suitcase clothing that isn't available up there like Hopitoulas, Canebrake, etc., and do the same on the way back, bringing me back some bottles of Bell's please.

If I freeze it, and pack it for the flight... think it will make the few hours safely..?

You think TSA will give me grief?

freeze it and pack it in a small styrofoam box in your checked baggage and you should be fine.

Yeah... that's what I was thinking... I don't know the protocol for 'frozen foods'

Andouille from ether Bailey's, Jacobs or Wayne Jacobs.....they will vacuumn pack...just freeze and pack.

The hogshead cheese I got at Bailey's was incredible.

Maybe some Jack Miller's BBQ Sauce.....though you are going to have to check that to bring the quart sizes.
