Mostly national travel with some international? How does it impact your family life? what are the pros/cons of taking something like this assuming the pay is more than sufficient?

I don't know if I could do it.

I quit my old job that was 50% or greater for travel once my wife became pregnant. Now I travel like once or twice a year.

I much, much prefer to be home every night with my family.

If I could take my family with me, I might consider taking a job with lots of travel again.

no way I'd take something like that

there isn't a sufficient pay to compensate for me being away from home half the time

might as well work offshore

I travel for work now, with the same pay as I had in the cubicle. I also get to work from home a good bit. My wife seems to be fine with it, though she pressures me into making a definitive schedule.

I do it, it's very hard. If your spouse isn't committed as much as you are it will cause hardship to the relationship. Talk to your wife dude.

I only sleep in my house about 3-4 months of the year. The other 8-9, I'm traveling. I really miss my dog.

yeah I would office from home when I'm not traveling and I would control when I travel but it would likely be up to 50% of the time since the clients would be national

I user to do it. Has its pros and cons. Miss out on some things you'd like to see like little league games and whatnot but it also makes you appreciate them more. And frankly, sometimes it's just nice to get some me time. It's not for everyone and I've seen it ruin marriages but some relationships thrive on being away from each other often.

With young kids no way.

It puts significant pressure on your wife and the first time you face time with a 2 year old on a 3 day trip and they break down crying when they see your face you'll want to turn in a notice.

With older kids no way. You'd miss to many important life events.

As a husband and a father you can't provide for your family if you aren't there 50% of the time. Plus it puts a lot of pressure on your wife and kids to interact with you when you are around, so they have 2 versions of life. When Dad's around and when he's not.

I currently travel about 100k miles per year for my job and my wife is currently pregnant with our first child. The traveling takes a toll on both your health as well as your family life. If i'm gone Tuesday-Friday, I can promise you that for Friday night and most of Saturday I am exhausted and trying to catch up. Then get ready for another trip on either Monday or Tuesday with the same outcome. Being on the road that much leads to bad eating habits, lack of exercise and lots of beat off sessions. There is a lot of burden on my wife because she doesn't cook too much so while i'm gone, she's eating out or not eating at all which isn't good for the little one. When i'm home I can at least help put some veggies into her diet and give her the nutrients that she needs.

I am currently looking to get out of this role because of the travel. I am much happier when i'm at home and not dreading dealing with cancelled flights, delayed flights, hotels, rental car's and amateur travelers who don't know how TSA or security works.

i don't have kids but I used to have a job that travel was 50-75%. It was really hard on my wife, and our relationship.

I suspect I will have to do it again in the future, but right now its about 25% travel.
