If you compare the MSU game with this past weekends game in the Swamp you can see how much better LSU has gotten over the past few weeks. The linebackers played much more disciplined and the defensive line did a better job of controlling the line of scrimmage. Offensively LF is beginning to hit his stride and Jennings made some clutch throws down the stretch. Obviously UF is not as well coached as MSU, but they are closer in talent than most people realize. LSU is a young football team that is growing up before our eyes and I would look for more improvement this week against Kentucky.

Their defense is legit and loaded with talent.

But, keep being a skid stain

We are definitely improving, but I wouldn't say its major improvement. We need to temper our expectations.

UF is a very talented football team, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Driskel holds them back but they still have a lot of good football players.

For comparison, Florida D is ranked 40th in total defense, LSU is 29th.
In scoring defense, Florida is 43rd, LSU 17th.

They are NOT a great defense like you guys keep saying.

The offensive line played much better, too. And Florida has some legit pass-rushers.

Keep in mind, if the punt returns didn't happen, we probably win by double-digits.

Against their D-line, LSU's O-line looked to hold their own, and give a few blows. D-line and linebackers did a decent job, too. I agree that Florida isn't the norm this year, but in the swamp is still a good win with a young group. We will see how it carries over into this week..

Thank You! Florida is a bad football team. Amazing that they were actually worse than us. Great team win, but it was a security blanket for most people, much like the Wisconsin game.

This. The defense looked better, but that was expected against a poor UF offense. My hope is that a little success will lead to a little more confidence exhibited by the coaches and players.

Offense, the obvious biggest improvement was the run-blocking. Even against 8 man fronts LSU was able to find space to run. The OL also did a decent job in pass protection. Jennings had time. I know I'm going to get hammered about this, but IMO LSU biggest problem in the passing game is the QB or even OL, it's that every route is deep and takes a while to develop. Those are hard to throw and block. I'd love to see what a guy like Diarse can do in space. We all know Dupree and Dural can go deep.

I am very happy about the win at Florida, but I did not see a whole lot of improvement. Florida is REALLY bad. We looked amazing versus Sam Houston St., too. The opponent has a lot to do with it.

Auburn completely destroyed LSU just 9 days ago.

The defense did not look better. We allowed over 300 yards and 20 points to an absolutely anemic Florida football team. It is amazing how beating bad teams will make fans think there is improvement. If last Saturdays opponent was MSU or Auburn nothing would have been better then the first two times

Anytime you win a road game in the SEC against a non-bottom-feeder, it's a pretty good accomplishment.

Clearly, Florida has a lot of issues on both sides of the ball, so you can't take too much away from the game. However, they are undoubtedly very talented, and LSU just wasn't ready for the MSU & AU buzzsaws at those points in the schedule. So, the UF game is something that we should be able to build upon, regardless of how bad the Gators are.

Remember, the OL didn't look nearly that good against ULM, so it's clear that they're gelling. The KY game should give them another opportunity to excel, so they'll hopefully be heading into the Ode Miss (spelled with Oxford accent) game with a good level of confidence.

If the keep getting improved line play the only thing holding them back will be once again the QB position. I am really hoping one of the two we have has a light go off. We don't need much at this point just something close to 60% completions and 200 yards in the air.

I support the optimism, and agree that 7 games into the season, young, talented players are learning how to succeed against competition of a caliber they'd never encountered before. This team will only get better (though perhaps not better enough to avoid two or three more losses--let's not get unrealistic, this always was a rebuilding year). The only position where the ceiling may not be high enough is at quarterback. Harris should be the future, but the future is not now. He needs to be brought along at the pace the coaches determine gives him the best long-term advantage. If that means not tossing him into the cauldron against Ole Miss and 'Bama, so be it. Support the guys on the field.
