But it doesnt change the fact that Florida is a cellar dweller SEC team this year.

But 14 of those points were a result of bad, bad punt coverage on our part.

quote:Without the punt returns they still have 300 yards. Actually, it would be more because the returns took yardage away from their offense(unless you assume we would have held them to 0 yards on those drives) They scored 10 points off punt returns, so lets assume without them they score 3-7. Still not good from our defense. Look guys, our team is young and I am not miserable. The oline definitely showed improvement Saturday. But I cant say the defense showed any
The punt returns are the only reason it was close

Better than Wiscy. As good as Auburn. Their defensive stats suffer because of their offense...like so many past LSU teams.

So are you saying if we played AT Vandy on a year in which they were very good and we were not you wouldn't trump the fact that we lost to a good team?
Were we a hard team to beat at home in 1998/1999?

So those points don't count?

quote:He is right thought. Beating Florida gives you warm and fuzzies because there name is Florida. How do you feel about beating a team that was 4-8 last year that will be 6-6 at best this year? Because that is the truth of the situation. Any win though on the road was huge for this team though, because a loss there could have made the wheels come off. I wont downplay the fact the win was big, but to say there was major improvement is nothing short of crazy in my eyes

quote:So, what? Everyone is well-aware of how far they have fallen. Part of the reason for that is that the rest of the conference has improved significantly. But they are still a team with a lot of talent, and that had a lot to play for at the time of the game. It was also in their stadium. If you can't see the value in that, given the myriad problems that our team currently has, then I've got nothing for you. Like I said, continue to rationalize your misery. I'll enjoy the win, and won't deny the improvements that I saw Saturday night.

Just don't go thinking our defense is ready to be dominate in conference yet. Which btw is giving 34 a game in sec games.

Great, but where is the passing game?

LSU was a team with a lot of talent in 1999. Were we a hard team to beat at home in 1999? Did other teams, not named Houston, pound their chests over beating us in 1999?
The fact is that Florida is not a good team and were an easy pass drop away from beating us. Our OL played better and our LB play was improved. But overall that was a very ugly performance by two college football teams. Lets not sugar coat it.

My expectations are to beat UK, this board will overreact like crazy and say there was even more major improvement, then Brother Wallace is going to come in here and lead Ole Miss to about 450 yards and 30+ points and this board is going to melt its face off.

Oh and the defense is still very soft. Cannot set the edge to stop a 3rd down. This is a fact. LSU was lucky to beat an awful Florida team. Beat Ole Myth and Bama and TAMU and I'll give some cred. What are the odds this team finishes worse than last year? >50%.

People please calm down! When I said this team has made major improvement I was not implying that we are now able to beat Ole miss and Bama, we were so awful against MSU that it is clear we have improved since that game. Against MSU our linebackers took terrible angles, bit on fakes, and looked really poof fundamentally. This past weekend it was obvious we had made strides in fixing those problems. I did not say that our defense is now on the level of the 2011 defense, or that Jennings has became an elite QB, or that we are now a contender in the West! I said we are getting better and we should be proud of these guys effort and optimistic about the future.
