This is my 3rd or maybe 4th rewatch. And I can just never tell how I feel about Mrs. Bartlett. She can really be a bitch sometimes, but sometimes she has a right to be a bitch.
Watching the whole MS debacle right now. Geez. What a clusterfrick. No way Bartlett stays in office if he hid something like that.

dude i'm doing the same thing now lol. I'm right after the MS story broke.
I'm not a fan of mrs barlett. She's a prick for no other reason than she can be. But Zoey and Elle can get it lol.

I never really had a problem with her. She got to be a little much during the MS period but I didn't give it a lot of focus.
Still my favorite show of all time

I love the show, but the idea that a president would actually get re-elected if that happened just doesn't seem remotely plausible.

Right?
I don't mind it that much though. You gotta expect some stuff like that from a show.

Jesus, guys think about how much her life was sincerely F'ed up by his desire to be president. It wasn't like she was a stay at home mom. She had a great job that she was apparently very good at and loved, and quite frankly surgeons that love their job can't give it up easily. It is addictive. SO basically, she had to completely give up that side of her life and go around being a Stepford wife in public because he promised it would be 4 years. So yeah, I think she had a right to be a bitch. Hell, I think she had a right to divorce his arse and go on with her own life.
Oh, and she went from being the head of surgery where her opinion was the end all to being not even able to have an opinion on things she probably knew a helluva lot more about that others in the room. That wouldn't drive any of y'all crazy?

How does one get past the suspension of disbelief that all of the main cast is naive and morally unscathed in high level Washington politics?
these guys are Steve Rogers-ethical and he is a goddamn superhero.

Honestly the only female characters I liked were Joey Lucas and Mrs. Landingham.

Because its not real life, its a tv show. Just out of curiosity what are some of your favorite shows?

They weren't morally unscathed, though certainly Sorkin's belief in the supremacy of Clintonesque ideology comes through at times. I think people are wrong to assume that WH staffers are necessarily as corruptible as tenured reps and senators. You get a lot of purists in the WH, which can lead to ridiculousness like we're seeing now, but a lot of it is being out of your depth as opposed to being rotten, IMO.
But WW certainly showed the weaknesses and pitfalls of the staffers. Josh gets in trouble for being an a-hole frequently. Toby gets in trouble. Jed is continually reminded that his natural instinct is to be a spineless liberal New England professor instead of the leader of America.
I do think we have room for a middle ground between WW and House of Cards that has the realism of WW and some grittiness from HOC, but I just don't think it'd work.
On networks, they'd make it into Scandal and it would be like HOC-lite for a dumb audience. On HBO they'd probably make it too liberal and too gritty for all audiences.

I think that's a fair summation. She had to put her life on hold for his aspirations, and there is tension in their marriage because of it. That doesn't make her a bitch, that makes her a human being. I thought she was a good character just because of how she could throw her weight around and was a real player in the behind the scenes politics herself. And I liked the cutting the tie bit.
