Asian Sweet and Sour sauce ...

Looking for a brand that's legit, not too sweet and sugary, or "glow in the dark" red. Something with a genuinely good flavor profile.
I'm assuming some of you will suggest some authentic asian brand that i can only find in certain stores.
That's exactly what i'm looking for.

I suggest making your own so you can alter the profile yourself. Very simple sauce to make.
1 1/2 cups pineapple juice
4 tablespoons vinegar
1 1/3 tablespoons soy sauce
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup water
4 tablespoons cornstarch
Play with it to suit your taste.

If you are in BR, go to Vihn Phat, they carry plenty of options that are better than American grocer options.
They are the only place in town that carries Kimlan Soy Sauce, which is vastly better than Kikkoman,etc..and the choice of many great restaurants.
They carry many Sweet and Sour sauces better than grocer brands, such as Mae Ploy, Pantai, and assorted Chinese, Taiwanese, etc..brands.
Also, for anyone that likes CDM Coffee w/Chicory..best price in BR by a mile.

Mai Ploy is my favorite. I keep bottles of the stuff here. Nice bite, but it's definitely sweet. I haven't had another sweet and sour type sauce I like. It looks gross and tastes gross. I always tell Chinese places to leave it off my orders. If they err, the first thing I do is pour that nastiness down the drain and pull out the Mae Ploy. Having some tonight.

Yes indeed! Could eat it with a spoon. I add a little hot mustard for a different kick. Makes a nice glaze as well. Fine stuff.

Thanks Guys! ... exactly the kind of recommendation I was looking for. I've actually seen that one on the shelves. There's Asian markets out here that make Vinh Phat look like a gas station convenience store. Now I don't have to go through trial and error, as i trust you guys' judgment.

Frozen Saigon eggroll(not as good as homemade) + Mae Ploy sweet chilli sauce = hmmm I want to eat that now!

Yep, and Vihn Phat carries all the Saigon line of egg rolls in the freezers..they are outta Houston..and legit!
But, you have to quick fry them to get them right.

I am a big fan of sweet chili sauce.
But the Saigon market here has so many brands.
I really liked the Maggi brand but they no longer have it, and I couldn't find it anywhere in town.
Damn-it if I didn't find the stuff at the Grand Isle Surway.. bought 3 bottles.
Mix the sweet chili with a dab of mayo and a squeeze of lemon for some grilled shrimp sometime.
