I say September 1st. I have lost all interest in the MLB since mid august, and baseball is my favorite sport. There is no reason to play so many games. Cut it from 162 to 130.

Do we get a whole new record book to go along with the old one or do the records just stay unbreakable forever?

So you think MLB should move their playoffs to compete with the start of the NFL season?

It'll only get later. Fox wants it in November Sweeps because it's better than their crappy regular programming.

First week of September.

154-game season with scheduled double-headers.

I think starting the postseason around Sept 5-10 would be pretty good. Have the World Series the first or second week in October.

MLB is my second favorite pro sport, but the season is way too long. Cutting back to 154 regular season games would be a good start. That was the # for a long time.

First weekend of September and here is how you get it done:

-Start the season 2 weeks earlier(third Monday in March)
-Have a few scheduled weekend double headers
-Go back to the 154 game schedule

so when it's even colder with worse weather
double headers are garbage baseball with worse talent on the field
8 games less? What effect would that have?

Yeah but it would completely take away from the hype of the playoffs on major networks. Would be possibly the dumbest thing they could do

You can deal with bad weather for an extra week or 2.

Fans will not care about a few games during the season where the play is a little diminished if it means the season ends earlier. 8 games is a week nearly a week and a half of baseball

yeah postponed games and all the comes with it will really help the scheduling crunch you're trying to avoid

I don't think anyone cares when it ends, it's that there's so many games.

it's also nearly 14 years worth of games if I misleadingly use the word 'nearly'

It is fine as it is.

I am a huge MLB and football fan and I don't have an issue watching or keeping up with both sports.

Yeah 1 or 2 postponed games is really a massive deterrent.

It is the opposite having games everyday is a good thing. The problem is the season is too long and people lose interest and are just waiting for the playoffs to start

On second thought, if it were a 154-game schedule the season would be over, and I wouldn't get to see my fave pitcher pitch for my fave team again this season.

So 4 less home games per team, bad attendance for cold arse March games, and 2 for 1 on weekends. I'm sure the owners would love to hear more of your ideas on how to make less money.

Irrelevant if you are getting more TV money because you're getting higher ratings for playoff games in September vs October
