Im finally making the move to using a 20ga exclusively this year. Gonna make it a lot easier to carry just one type of shells since my wife, and my oldest daughter both already shoot 20ga's. I picked up a M2 20ga this summer and knew right away it was going to be what I carried this winter. Gonna feel weird not carrying my Mag Stalker or my SBE, but I'm looking forward to giving them a break this season. The wife even hit me up for a new SX3 20GA when she saw how much I liked shooting the little 20ga. So who else ain't drinking the 3-1/2" 12ga koolaid and plans on showing their buddies up with 20ga's?

Hmmmm idk. That's some good koolaid. That 3 1/2" 10ga is another flavor I'm partial towards.

If I'm gonna be shooting a 3-1/2" its gonna be a 10ga. Heck my Gold 10ga kick less than any 3-1/2" 12ga I've ever shot. Then again as heavy as it is it should kick less

I can honestly say I've never shot a 3-1/2" 12ga at a duck. Always did fine with 3" shells so I never felt the need. Although I do know some folks are firm believers in them.

I have no problem shooting 3" shells if it's a good load. A lot of 3 1/2" shells are have equal or less steel than a good 3" shell. And they cost a lot more. Like I said in the other thread I like #1s. They pattern good enough for ducks and seem to be just that much better with geese.

Not I

I'll be dropping the hammer on 2 3/4" 12's though. I'm not a fan of recoil.

I've seen my buddy convert many a teal into ground feather meat with 3.5's

Best shooting in a blind I've ever seen was a guy with a 20. Grabbed 6 shells, told us when he ran out we could bring him back, he would have a limit. I'll be damned, if he wasn't right.

Chessie, I am glad you like #1's. We are headed to Sask. In Sept. for a duck/goose hunt. We decided to try 1's to avoid swapping shells. It will be mostly big ducks, how are they on others?

In response to the OP, I bought a 20ga sx-3 last year. I shot it in the marsh last year. Great for ducks in decoys. The noticable drop in recoil from my SBE is great. I found a case of Kent 3's for a great price. I should be set.

NO...say it ain't so. We gotta keep those old A5's working.

Every once in a while I do think I'd like to try a 20 but just can't bring myself to do it. Haven't shot a 20 for ducks since I was 13.

FWIW, I will not go back to 3-1/2's. I have a gun that will shoot them but all I ever shoot out of it is 3"

I'm going to try 3" shells this year.

In college (2003-4) I bought a few cases and I still have them since I did not hunt at all for several years. This past year several did not fire so I think it's time to get some fresh ones.

I've always done fine with 2.75" from my old 870.

I loaded up on 20 ga. tungsten matrix and "real" HD shot back before the price got insane.

So I've got a few more years of 20 ga duck hunting at least.

20 for teal season and wood duck jump shooting on creeks in Kisatchie.

12 for big ducks.

I have not found to be 3.5's to be any more effective than 3's except for when sky blasting which I don't do.
