There were no injuries during an incident at Valero that caused a loud boom and was heard - and felt - as far away as Luling. Early reports have said that a pipe burst at the Diamond Green Diesel plant, which is a joint venture with Valero. Sheriff Greg Champagne said that there is no danger to the public and that "there is a diesel fire that will be allowed to burn off at a diesel producing unit."

NORCO, La. - Dozens of residents of the St. Charles Parish area have called Eyewitness News with reports of a loud booming sound from an area where there are chemical plants.

Ron Perry of the St. Charles Parish office of emergency preparedness said that the incident occurred at the Diamond Green Diesel facility on the Valero campus in Norco.

Perry said there were no on-site injuries and no need for protective measures to be taken on the site. He said the response was being handled by Valero.

Perry confirmed that he felt the shocks from the apparent explosion and residents said that homes shook in the area and as far away as Kenner. One eyewitness sent in a video that appeared to show gray smoke coming from an area near a plant.

Time to fill up the gas tank. Prices will jump tomorrow. At least that is the excuse they will use.
