Yes. I'm worried that they either won't hire me because I don't graduate until May, or that they won't work around my school schedule....but I'm going to give it a shot anyway. Dow is hiring interns again, and I think I have a great shot this time. 2 semesters to go, carrying a 4.0 average.

There wasnt a single person that graduated from ptech that was hired in the last session FWIW.

The most somebody had was 2 semesters.

I would really like to finish now that I've gone through 4 semesters. Not sure how that would go over at Momentive. I know a few Dow interns in my classes that go to their classes as needed. The next few weeks should be interesting. Every time I get an email, I get anxious. School starts again 8/18.

Eghh...if you get picked, you'll have 4 weeks worth of preop, straight days 4/10s then you'll either stay on straight days or you'll go on shift.

I dont think they're going to give you off in the middle of the day for class, An internship is different from an actual job. Not saying you can't go to school, just plan on missing some days but the ptech school works with you from what I'm told.

Good luck!

Thanks. Dow transitions their interns to permanent full time work upon graduation. You can qualify and start working alone on a unit in just a few months even before graduation. Pay then increases substantially, overtime starts. Benefits upon graduation. I'm fortunate to have a good job currently that allows me to go to school whenever I need to.

I worked there when it was good hope/trans america and it was bad then, I can only imagine how it is now.

Started going down there in '95 I know what you're talking about. But this was a new project altogether. I know they were having some issues with corrosion in the CS pipe due to the animal fats that they didn't anticipate. Perhaps this is one of those lines. Regardless, glad nobody was hurt.

I live in Hahville. Was watching TV and heard a boom and house rumble a little (garage door shook pretty hard). Went outside to see WTF was going on. Next door neighbor came running out, she thought her teenage daughter had run into the house with her car.

This explosion was very mild compared to the one at shell years ago. Thankfully nobody was injured but you know the vultures are going to be circling to sue the company.

I believe if you intern and do pretty well, you'll get hired. Unfortunately, many work a year or two then jump to the refineries for more pay.

Wow...

I worked at the Diamond Green Plant for 10 months during the final phases of Construction. When we finished our scope, the plant had been up and running for about a month. During that month, they were having to shut down one of the units because the product was already eating holes in some of the piping.

Happy to hear that no injuries have been reported.

Crazy stuff...

Accidentally directing hot caustic can cause this, ask Shell.

It is a UOP process and they are pretty strict when specifying materials and manufacturers. If this is the case I could see some changes being made

They were planning a turnaround a while back to swap a lot of the Carbon Steel piping to Stainless.

That is a new unit. No old equipment involved. You know zilch about what you are saying.

Why do you say that? It's a pretty common practice these days as feeds get more and more sour to raise profits.
