Can't make this stuff up

quote:

At the time of her death, Smith was 65 years old. Smith was killed in a hit and run accident by a drunk driver. She was walking on the corner of Jackson and Magazine streets one night. Her body laid in the street for five days. Neighbors said she bled out into the street. Authorities ignored her body because it was their priority to tend to the living first in the aftermath of the storm. Neighbors decided to make a makeshift grave memorial for her because she was well-known in the community. The makeshift memorial sat on this property until Charcoal’s was built in 2012.

quote:

Charcoal’s certainly hasn’t had it easy. Business is slow, and there have been plenty of mishaps and problems which aren’t entirely understood.

“Our brand new meat grinder went out the first week we opened,” he said.

Other mishaps include: broken waterlines, vandalism, and fighting with the city to open their doors.

Guess they are trying to become a stop on a ghost tour.

maybe it's because their burgers are expensive, and not as good as some other options, the layout is strange and that it's hard to park.

I haven't been since they first opened. Kind of surprised they're still open.

I did just find out an old High School buddy is managing there now. Maybe worth another shot.

Though ghosts can be bad for business if you're not careful.

I've enjoyed my burgers everytime I've been there, but I don't let things like parking and building design effect my taste buds. I didn't go right when they opened FWIW. I would recommend ordering one of the speciality burgers instead of the same old burger you can buy at any old joint. Don't think there are too many places in town doing things from scratch even down to the buns like they do there.

IIRC, I had a bison burger last time. It was cooked 2 levels higher then the medium I ordered.

Thing tasted like shite.

I was at Charcoal's Sunday afternoon with a large group. of probably about 21. Downstairs was bare until we got there and they got busy right after we got there. We did all come from mass at St. Mary of the Assumption Church and touring the Blessed Seelos Shrine. Maybe we scared off the bad mojo when we got there.

BTW, I had and loved the House Burger I had and everyone else enjoyed there burgers as well.

This is an old WGNO piece, but the one time I went it was a pretty expensive burger, fries and beer. There are many other options at better prices that also taste better.

I really wish they would use charcoal to cook their burgers as well...

Food sucked And was expensive both times I went.
I had speciality burgers both times. Can't remember the apps but one was good and portioned well and the other sucked and small.

Not going back.

I think that's about par for the course in that area, but many people would just prefer somewhere else.

The one time I went it was fine, just wasn't special enough to return I guess.
