Most of the R&B artists you listed had better stuff in the 80's, especially Whitney Houston and MJ. Metallica was terrible in the 90's, so move them to the 80's as well.

I'll give you country and rock. No idea on rap. It never interested me.

most people on this board will say either 60s, 70s, Phish, or Drake

I get the superstar angle, but other than Grunge (which had some great stuff but also spawned a whole generation of mumbling frontmen)the 90's wasn't much of an inventive decade. I'd maybe add Reznor, Chemical Bros etc. as something that hadn't really been seen before.

I'd say NIN and the electronic movement was a bigger innovation than grunge. Remember when The Prodigy was supposed to be the biggest band in the world? You had bands like Smashing Pumpkins, David Bowie, and Rob Halford putting out electronic albums, Amp on MTV, the Spawn soundtrack. I don't know if you can point to that era as the beginning of the dubstep movement we see today but its been pretty influential in mainstream music.

I'd second that, Grunge was a variation on a theme and electronica was totally new. Even it had some roots in the 80s with music like Skinny Puppy and others, but hit the mainstream bigtime in the 90's. Both have a ripple effect on current music.

I would probably the 70s

The 90s had a great start but then fizzled a good bit in the late 90s. With clear channel hegemony and few alterntive ways emerging to enable user choice, the shite that came out wasn't that good.

60s was the best, followed closely by the 70s

90s had a few great bands: NIN, Alice in Chains, Pantera

I agree with everything this dude said. All of these people mentioned were better in the 80s, not the 90s. Nevertheless, I agree with everything else the OP said and 90s music as a whole is very under appreciated and was a great decade of music.

I'm gonna have to say the 60s. Some of the most influential bands and artists are from the 60s. There are ton but here's a few. For me, just these few make the 60s the greatest....

Beatles
Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin
Jimi Hendrix
Johnny Cash
Waylon Jennings

Kinda the point of this board bro. If you don't love Wilco then you're a stupid person and i hope your mom dies.

"Phish is the most important band of the 90s"

For once Rolling Stone got something right
