Does America still have the toughest military in the world?

Note I said toughest not strongest or technologically superior. Would the men of women today be able to serve like in vietnam or ww2 without mentally breaking?

Or how about torture, could they stomach it today like they did in pervious wars past?

Pound for pound are our individual army of one tougher then their Chinese counterpart, korean counter part, russian counter part, mexico counterpart (mexico due to the drug cartels culture) or have mentally our military grown soft due to changing culture?

Toughest is probably Russia or some Eastern European army.

The Eastern Europeans seem much more ballsy and less adverse to gore than possibly any other demographic.

We don't have the fittest. I talked to a guy who just retired from basic training instructor... Army.

He said "Zach, for the first time in my career I had some 18 year old male recruits who could not do a sit up. ONE SIT UP."

Seems almost impossible to know. But I would say that our elite forces are probably as tough as anyone.

if you mean- how "salty" our troops are compared to back in the day, I would say no. however, i'm sure that during ww2 they said that they weren't as tough as the soldiers in the civil war either.

Yes. There is far more mental health care available to soldiers these days. They are more likely to get the help they need before they break.

I don't think the ability to stomach torture is a generational one. Its going to be horrible no matter who you are or what your background is. Only people who will do better on average under torture than others is (perhaps) those who have endured it before.

If the Chinese are "tougher" by your standards its only because they value individuality very lowly in China.

"Toughest"...a lot of space there. And 'military' covers a lot of ground.

Bottom line powerful...yep. If we took the gloves off like the old days...and likely the future...there is no military on the face of this earth that could stand our all out attack.

Our weakness comes from the disunity of the people who our military serves, and the Principles therein. Serious and fatal rot always starts at the core.

I'd agree with this. Our elite are probably as good or better than everyone.

Our regular soldiers, probably not do much.

I don't know about the Russians but I have worked extensively with Easter European militaries. The are for the most part out of shape and undisciplined compared to us.

Being less averse to gore really only matters if you plan on decapitating your enemies or something.

I'll bet that the NORKs are tough. They have probably been trained to deal with the most brutal of conditions.

And they live with them every day.

If you talk to the grownups (Generals)obesity in the 18-25 demographic is a national security issue.

Isn't their official motto "everybody die big time!", or something to that effect?

Which country(ies) in particular are you referring to?

Even the NORK military is underfed. They lost a battle to Kim's Uncle's private militia over a seafood district. That's what led to Uncle's arrest and execution.

Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine.

They weren't necessarily fatasses but they were all just a little pudgy and slow. Their rank structure is fricked. Very little NCO leadership. However they are working on that.

Macedonia and Albania.

These guys for whatever reason were all in fairly good shape and well disciplined. Perhaps I just worked with better units from those countries. However the Albanians all had 1 female in each rifle platoon. If you looked at their Table of Organization she was listed as "female personnel." That's no lie. I'm not sure exactly what her job was but I have my suspicions.

There are elements within the U.S. military as tough and as disciplined as any fighting force in the world.
