Heading there this weekend and haven't been in a couple years. Staying a couple blocks from the River. What are some of the better places to hit up for drinks and food (casual dining) and not necessarily in the sMe establishment? Just the wife and I.

Roux 61, and it's not close. Go early so you won't have to wait as much.

Roux 61 has good traffic, but I haven't eaten there. Li 'l Dagos in a nice casual Italian joint.

We enjoy drinks at the saloon under the hill at night. Laid back atmosphere, with the river right in front of you. You can still walk downtown Natchez safely at night. Enjoy yourselves.

Have been to King's Tavern, good food! Is the Tavern still open by the river (Bowie's)?

Like others have said the tavern under the hill is nice.

Try to go by Fat Mama's for tamales and a beer. They make a pretty good tamale.

eaten there twice, and have been under whelmed both times. Not bad, just not great. Chimes is better. It is located a couple of miles south of town on Hwy 61...

We always hit up Fat Mama's! Should be drinking a Margarita, eating Natchez Nachos and Tamales by 6:00!

My only problem with Margaritas is I usually need a driver afterwards.

Might be worth the (short?) drive to Lorman, MS to eat fried chicken at The Old Country Store.

here

Maybe touristy, but really good chicken and the guy who does it is a character.

Might consider going for lunch. You would likely be too full for dinner if you did.

I'm not so sure "The Greatest Chicken in the World" is still being cooked there. Passed by last Friday around 11:15 and the site was bereft of cars or any evidence of commerce.

If so, that's sad. I did get the guy to sing for us. He was good, his chicken was great.

Pig out inn, bisquits and blues, roux 61, fat mamas, pearl street pasta and breauds are all good options

don't go to that Fat Mama Tamales, it's very overrated.

Cotton Alley is my favorite restaurant there by far.

Heard good words on Cotton Alley. Might consider the Carrige House for lunch...the ladies love that place.

It's still open. I ate there a week or so ago. Chicken is great. Old dude needs another song though. "Grandma was a conebread cookin queen" is getting rather old.

That's great news. Bookmarked to stop by next time no matter how out of schedule I am.
