I know you've discussed this before, but how in the cornbread frick do you take a completely wild arse predatory bird and put it to use?
I don't know either.
He's got a badass card though.

I'll try to post some later. Getting ready to take the red tail out hunting right now.
The picture.... My daughter is home schooled. That side of the kitchen is basically her classroom. And she's quite the artist.

That is freaking awesome.
I request ...make that DEMAND...some video of your future hunting exploits! Better yet, buy a GoPro and strap it onto the hawk.
ETA - would love to see some future posts with detailed reports of your progress in training the new raptor.

Years ago there was a young hawk on my fence that took a chicken leg from my hand. Always wondered if it belonged to someone or if it was just a really friendly wild one. It was a rare photo opportunity at a time when I was big into wildlife photography.

This is my mews and weathering yard, just before I added tin to the roof to complete it. That's where the red tail lives.
The cooper's is actually going to live in the house. Working on getting her setup done right now.

I believe that's either a juvie Swainson's hawk or a broad-winged hawk. Neither are commonly used in falconry. It was probably just very accustomed to people.

is somethin around its tail?
Posted on 10/19/13 at 2:21 pm to Teague
I assume you're suppose to have a special license to be able to legally trap a falcon? Difficult to obtain? expensive?
Not that I'm thinking of doing it, just wondering

Mine as well.
There was a thread awhile back with a link to some video?
Anyone have it?

this may be a stupid question but how the hell do you get the "hood" on it's head? Seems like he would not be very accommodating.

How does one trap a falcon?
You got a Net gun?

Bc trap. Google it. It's pretty cool and if you see a raptor and are careful you can have it trapped within minutes.

Yes, you have to be licensed. It involves a written test, facilities and gear inspection, and a two year apprenticeship under another falconer, where you are restricted to certain birds and only one at a time.
Whoever asked, she has tape around her tail. Coops have delicate feathers. I have her tail temporarily taped to cut down on the risk of broken feathers during these early stages where she's still very scared.

In the beginning, they're kind of in shock and it's easier than you'd think. Later on, it becomes a bit of an art to keep them accepting it.
