re: Math Problem: Saw this on FB and now I'm depressed - Al Dante
I see what you're saying. 1x + 2y = 5 We used order of operations for this equation, you're right. But 5+5x10 would have been written 5+(5x10). ...

re: Math Problem: Saw this on FB and now I'm depressed - Al Dante
My kid's math teacher, who has taught math at the same school for 40 years, told me that he used to not teach PEMDAS until the 90's, and none of the other schools in our parish did either. At LSU we did not use it either in the 80's. Don't know how I can be wrong. Why do you think some people in ...
The order of operations is like 500 years old dude
Ask anybody that graduated high school in the 80's in Louisiana and none of us were taught this. I went to LSU in the 80's and we didn't use it there either. It may be like 500 years old but my parents weren't taught that and ne...

PEMDAS 5+(2x10) = 25 The problem with PEMDAS is we had a perfectly fine way of doing things before. I got 70 because I wasn't taught PEMDAS. I'm going to stick with 70. If someone older than 45 wrote this equation 70 would indeed be the answer....

re: Just got a fry daddy, what is your favorite thing to deep fry? - Al Dante
i thought this would be gross but I tried it at a restaurant and it was actually really good: fried rice dressing balls. They made rice dressing, put in fridge to tighten, made balls about the size of ping pong balls, rolled them in bread crumbs and flash fried. ...

re: Baton Rouge: 6 officers shot: 3 dead, one fighting for life - Al Dante
No shite. At the end of the video, after all the screaming and terror you can hear the lady driver take off and 30 seconds later say. "Y'all hold up, I'm gonna go drive over here and pee on the wall of this building. Oh Lawd" ...

For those that don't have Periscope on their phones, you should get it if you want to witness this shite. There are no live cameras now but there will be later tonight. There were a few today and I was laughing at the hysterics....

re: Credit Card Rewards and Points Discussion - Al Dante
Thanks for the quick response. Forgive my ignorance here and let me ask one more question. Say a ticket costs 1800 bucks. Couldn't I buy it using Amex points? I know the points aren't transferrable to American Airlines points, but can't you really buy anything with Amex points? I think an 1800 ...

re: Credit Card Rewards and Points Discussion - Al Dante
My situation: I put 30,000 dollars a month combined on multiple United Business and personal credit cards and pay them out every month. I do this because I travel for family reasons to one very specific place often and get a lot of free tickets this way. United has stopped offering one leg of thi...

re: Where would you live in the US if you had a choice? - Al Dante
Princeton, NJ. - A small town feel with Manhattan just a short, cheap train ride away and great schools. Any of the small towns around San Francisco, take your pick. Don't live in San Fran though. Tampa Bay, FL. Always liked that town. Got the beach, great weather. Don't know about the ...

re: US Open Thread (Spieth wins @-5, DJ 3 putts 18 from 12 feet to lose by 1) - Al Dante
I think it's a two-pronged mental thing with Tiger. First, he's gotten so involved in mechanics and changing his swing so frequently that it makes no sense: he's got to get more feel back in his game. Secondly, the whole cheating/divorce scandal fricked him in the head and gave him a sense of low ...

re: Need help outfitting kitchen - Al Dante
For skillets I would get Lodge brand cast iron - cheap and heavy. I would also get a non-stick skillet for eggs and maybe fish. You don't need an expensive non-stick because no matter what brand you'll have to change them eventually if you're like almost everybody. For Pots I would buy the Mar...

re: BOIL has become predictable - Al Dante
Slippage helps a short, doesn't much help a long.
But in the case of DGAZ you're shorting an instrument that is the inverse of the long. You're kind of shorting a short. The beta-slippage should be the same between (short DGAZ) and (long UGAZ) because of this. I agree that a sh...
I'd never buy a leveraged commodity ETF or ETN. Never... The difference is when you own a ETN, or an ETF, you really don't own anything.
Conversely, when you short an ETN or an ETF, you really aren't shorting anything. Yet you will short DGAZ for a longer period of time than goi...
I'd never buy a leveraged commodity ETF or ETN. Never. This would require a conservative traders such as myself to close the position each day. No way in the world would I own this until market open.
I still don't understand. Sorry for my ignorance. You say you'd never buy a com...
