Check the head markings of Mung's vs. this of a California Glossy. Then again, looks like Gopher too. Hmmm
Yeah, the markings are very similar. I don't know enough about either to say 100%. I assumed he was in louisiana when I first posted, so I immediately thought pine snake, and...

Louisiana Pine Snake. *Edit* Ok you're not in LA. It's some kind of Pituophis (gopher, bull, or pine snake). In northern cal, I think it would be a gopher snake....

re: Snake question - Teague
You actually got bitten by a nonvenomous snake by just walking by? Congrats, that's a pretty big accomplishment. I've been bitten countless times, but it was always because I was catching them. I've never just walked up on one and gotten bitten. Anyway, good work not killing him. ...

re: Dog swallowed a mouse whole - should I worry? - Teague
I don't think you guys realize how small a hopper mouse is. We're talking about a body length of about 1 1/2". His dog is in no danger at all. At MOST, it might make the dog sick since it isn't used to eating raw animals. But, more than likely, there will be a tiny bit of fur in his poop tomorrow, a...

re: Snake in my camp/little house (snakeskin found) - Teague
 To the OP, if a snake can get in, so can mice. If you don't have mice, thank the snake. Find where he's getting in, fix it. Search the cabin, and remove the snake if he's in there. Place him lovingly outside so he can continue to eat the mice that will eventually chew a new hole in you...

re: Snake ID? - Teague
Definitely NOT a cottonmouth. It's one of the nerodia genus of water snakes, which is a very confusing one for me. There's a lot of them, and most of them look fairly similar. Not knowing which ones you have wherever you are, I think the yellow-bellied, and green water snake comments are both possib...
