So the Mrs and I just closed on house yesterday. Very updated kitchen. One of the things that sold me on it. All Electrolux appliances within a couple years old.
The range is a 30 inch slide in electric range with the ceramic glass smooth surface.
I really prefer cooking with gas, but this thing is really new and I really dont want to drop the 2k on gas slide in if I am only going to be here for 5 years.
What say TD cooks?

do some research and see how much you could get for the existing electric range.

I loathe electric stoves. I especially loathe the smooth-top variety. I'd sell the electric on Craigslist and buy a gas one in a heartbeat. Even if you have to penny-pinch and buy a used one.
Just my $0.02.

Gas is amazing. I will never cook on anything else if I have full choice.

However, you don't need to spend that kind of money with that short of a timeframe.

I just ran into the same damn problem.

I think I'm going to wait but I would love to be back on gas. I've been cooking on that flat surface and it's horrible. Especially on my bigger cookware. Good luck.

I went from gas to glass top due to a move and was bitching non-stop. I still miss gas and will eventually update...but I'm doing just fine on the glass top. It certainly isn't as responsive or forgiving but you get used to it.

Agreed. My personality is, especially when making a huge purchase, do it all the way and get it exactly how you want it. I couldn't do a half-way job when buying/updating a house and live in between. that's me though.

I cook a lot. I love gas. Everything y'all are saying is what I'm worried about. How much do you think I could actually get for something like that though

well those go for about $1400 new so I'd guess you could get at least 800 or 900 hundred for it unless you just can't find anyone who wants it in your city.

Is there gas to the home, to the stove? If the line isn't currently run it or installed in the home it could get expensive...

Yep. We don't have a line to where the stove is so I'll be sticking with electric for a while.

Then you aren't a very good cook.

I cook on one every day. They are different and require some changes in the way you cook.

We have no gas at our house and I don't like the smell of propane stoves, so that is where I am at the moment.

I can cook circles around you. I mean I can cook on electric, I just hate it.
I prefer a high BTU gas burner.

electric sucks.

ETA -- whatever happened to the idea of the FDB posters entering a cookoff at Finn's? Talked about it years ago, never came to fruition.

The gas line is actually right behind wall fortunately.
So that's not an issue.
Contractor said he would buy it. I'll ask him how much and then make my decision. Y'all are definitely swaying me away from electric. Lol
If he doesn't offer enough I guess I'll use it for a few months and see how it goes. I can always replace it later
