For those of you who live on a lake......

Are you a douchebag and tell the neighbors they can't walk along the lake and fish? Or are you cool (as long as everyone is clean, quiet, & respectful) and don't give a shite?

What is the setup?
Large/small lake?
How much waterfrontage?
Quiet community or neighborhood type?

Fairly small lake (maybe 1.5 miles in circumference) in an extremely highly populated area. Houses are stacked right on top of each other, so everyone's backyard is 50 feet or so at most. Literally 5 steps and you're onto the next property.
If there is any daylight after work, I walk the entire west shore once or twice a week, making a cast or two and then I keep it moving.....I'm never just hanging out in someone's backyard for extended periods.

Our neighborhood has a boardwalk over the water. Keeps people out of the yards and still allows access to the water through the neighborhood...

There isn't an easement around the lake?

I'd feel a little uncomfortable about some random stranger walking around my back yard while my kids were playing...
50' wide backyard.... Has to be miserable.

I fish the vacant lots on both sides of my house if owners arent there . Would not care for other folks coming in my yard to fish. It is aggravating in the spring when we are catching sacs off the bank and some a-hole in a boat pulls up right in front of us to poach.

We just have boats fishing our bank and dock regularly. Doesnt bother me at all until they start casting right next to the big inflatable lounger we have anchored a few feet from the dock or close to swimmers. Then they get a few choice words.
Our bank is about 30 foot verticle with brush about half way down, not really any way to fish from it without walkin onto the dock.

depends on where the property line is... most development lakes have easements or ROW for residents to access all shorelines..
of course many of the property owners disagree with this.

I don't see where some decent people making a few casts out of my yard would bother me as long as they aren't making a mess or screwing up anything.

You may have an easement or ROW around the lake giving you permission, in which case you can tell the doucher to EAD.
I wouldn't care.

Man some people in this world suck. I remember the days when this would happen and the home owner would walk out with a beer for the fisherman and make a new friend, rather than popping his head out a window a cussing him out. We are supposed to be famous for Southern Hospitality. Neighbor's yards on a lake fall well into that category. For that matter golf courses as well. You don't like me coming to pick up my ball don't live on GD golf course. If the roles were reversed I'd toss you the ball, offer up a beer, and ask how the rounds going.

Good lord. I'd be pissy about living here and not about people on my lawn.

We know just about everyone in our neighborhood. If we are outside we hold conversations with most of our neighbors...

I'm pretty sure that is the prefered method. At least they are not on your property.
I grew up on a rural lake where we owned about 1500' of shoreline with a neighbor on one side and a timber company on the other for a mile or more. We had a private drive and my dad let his FIL and FIL's friend keep a jon boat down there with ours.
The point is, you can't complain when someone pulls up in a boat and fishes down your bank, but you can keep people off your property if it's not in a planned development.

Exactly.
When the roles are reversed and I see someone fishing in my backyard, I never tell that person to get to stepping. I simply go up to that person and ask if they're catchin anything, and find out what's biting. Hope I never get old & grumpy
