´Sup Alma. A big hug to ya, bro.
You may want to fire up Netflix, and look at the Vietnamese-Japanese guy who´s from Virginia. It was mentioned last night.
He´s got a lot of ramen things going on, which look to be quite similar in many respects.

I can post a recipe or two from a few books, having done it a time or two, but, the spice combinations are expensive and you likely can buy better pho than you can make. I buy the prepared broth and add the proteins and veggies I want.

Wife makes broth with beef bones and uses a spice mix we get in Hou. Accompanied with thin sliced eye of round, onion, basil and bean sprouts it comes out pretty good.

Do you have any Viet markets ?
I've never even thought about making it at home. It's just too cheap to buy.

I'd eat it,... but might add some 5 spice to the mix of seasoning.

easiest way is to go to an Asian store and get a Pho base. Get a more expensive one, and it will have the stock flavors and the seasonings.
Just add the base to water then add the ingredients and then you have a pretty good Pho.

I increased the seasoning in it now that you mention it. Added more of everything because it was a bit weak to me at first. It was fine after I doctored it. I froze some of the base so maybe I'll simmer some 5 spice in it when I take some out and see how that works.
ETA: I had a really strong shrimp stock so that may have overpowered it, initially. Had some good fatty heads in addition the shells.

No there is no Asian market source here. The closest may be in Savannah or Jacksonville FL. If even there. We have very few Asians in this part of the world.
I will pretty well have to make from scratch.
Thanks for the input, folks

Maybe you could make crawfish pho with those mudbugs you get in your ditch.

yeah, I have that brand, I got it from Hong Kong Market. It tastes pretty good. I got some other brands too(The most expensive was like $5). I know a lot of regular restaurants use bases to cheat on broths, so I don't doubt some Pho shops use these products.

No Asian Market, then you won't get the right herbs to start from.

I have family in Jax and been there many times, I'm sure you could find a spice mix there. It is cheap to buy but when your making multiple servings you'd be surprised how cheap you can make it at home.

Google pho...traditionally a beef dish as a primary protein , though shrimp and crab versions are awesome.
