If you've got a ton of time to kill go back and start from the beginning.
Kind of tells the story. It's impressive that they went from shitty apartment garage to owning their own bar. Plus there's tons of funny and informative content back then.

With my current job and commute it takes me about 3 days to listen to a full episode. But yeah I've heard the 1st ones were a lot more informative.

I understand. Had a 3 hour round trip commute for about 3 years and burned through them. Don't have that anymore and I can just keep up. I'd check out the Russian River ones from back in the day for info and the DeStruisse for an epic drunk episode.

It's pretty good but not too technical. They do talk a lot about their beer though and their thoughts and theories on how they're doing it.

Any other brewing podcasts worth listening to?

The BN is the only stuff I listen to. That being said I'd say that they have a little bit of everything to cater to everyone. The session is mostly them joking around and interviewing brewers.

Brew Strong and Can you Brew it and Dr. Homebrew are all more technical and helpful with just a little bit of tomfoolery.

Brewed a simple wheat ale Saturday. Pitched yeast starter around 4:00. Figured it was a small enough beer that I wouldn't need a blowoff tube. Wrong. Woke up to this Sunday morning. Never again.

That sucks. I did not pitch starters so mine are a little delayed. Hopefully are pumping when I go home for lunch.

Just got back from vacation to see this thread finally got stickied. Nice.

Also measured my coffee stout, down to 1.026 so far. Still have to cold steep some coffee and transfer to a secondary. Hopefully that will lower it a couple points. It tastes pretty good right now. Just a little sweet.

The bittering effect of coffee will probably take care of any sweetness. 1.026 isn't too bad for a big Imperial Stout. Our RIS only got down to .034 last time I checked.

Would you recommend starting from the beginning or just jumping in with current episodes and browsing the older ones later?

Depends on what you want out of it. It's so long and so much background to it that if you're looking to kill time go ahead and start from the beginning. If you're just looking for info browse the breweries you're interested in and use it for info.

I listened to the 6/5/05 show today, the first one. I'm pretty tired of sports talk and opie and Jim norton reruns. This should help for the days I have to spend all day in the truck

Brewed a simple Saison today. I mashed in at 100 and slowly brought it up to 148.

Then tossed it in the garage for most of the day, so it ended up mashing for like 6 hours

However, I did finally get around to brewing this evening and this is one of the 1st times that I have mashed and brewed in the same day in a long time.

Then set it aside and let it cool for a bit before adding my final hop addition at 180.

I'm looking to turn this around pretty quick and have it ready for football season.

Pretty quick? Pretty quick is brewing today for next Wednesday. Football season is still 5 weeks away. You could do a lambic in that amount of time.
