??

Kids love them, but they always make such a mess. Stove top or ugh, microwave, always a pain.

Use a bigger pot, or bowl, and stir more frequently

If it's on the stove, turn the heat down once they get to a rolling boil.

For instant grits just boil some water and pour it in bowl stir.

Sounds like you need a bigger pot.

No self-respecting southerner uses instant grits. I take pride in my grits.

I'm not a huge fan of grits but I've eaten my share in 36 years.
My kids love them..I have both in my house.
You couldn't tell the difference unless you saw the package.

I call cough/bullshite/cough

I buy stone ground grits and Aunt Jamimas are no where close to them. The texture is WAY different.

I'm not a food snob, but hell yes you can tell a difference in the two.

I can't.
But as I said, I'm not a huge fan and I'm certainly not a professional of grits.

What is a grit?

One of my all time favorite movies.

To the OP, you have to use a big enough pot and not boil the dickens out of them. I've never had them boil over. Stir and keep an eye on them until you bring them to a boil. Not too much multi-tasking while cooking them.

Quick grits are the same as regular grits just a finer grind so they cook faster, I like the texture. Instant grits are actually pre-cooked and dried, not vey good, that why they add flavorings, which make them worse.

It is hard to cook grits in the microwave without a mess, but if the pot is the right size on the stovetop just lower the temp after you add the grits to the boiling water, stir frequently.
