Do you call your lawyer "doc"? Sounds like you have md envy. Don't question what the real doc puts on the scrip...just fill it up. Tia.

No MD envy here, frick their hours.

MD's are experts on disease states. Pharm D's are experts on drugs. DWI.

As a drug expert...how many prescriptions have you written in your life? How about the average, non expert, md?

I can tell you how many I correct on a daily basis as a 2nd year student.

If I get one more Rx calling for amoxicillin for fricking impetigo I'm going to scream.

She knows it! She'll tell people. We have to learn everything about the meds they do. Then we use them on a daily basis and they just fill bottles (for the most part).

Hah, the episode I'm talking about was when the Doc in question was in the pharmacy asking about another drug and whether or not he should prescribe it. Guess it goes both ways, but the field of pharmacy is rapidly changing. Attitudes from the MD side of the house need to adjust as well.

Why would pharma companies spend money on giving a doctor's office free food every week if it didn't have a return on investment?

Do you think pharma just spends money on this out of generosity? A charity program for office and social workers?

I bet you think advertisements don't work, either.

As a former drug rep, allow me to enlighten you. We catered lunch because it was the only way we could get in front of the MD's, NP's, PA's, and RN's for more than 20 seconds. Doctors don't have time to sit in their office with you anymore because they have to turn-and-burn patients from opening to closing due to ever-falling reimbursement rates.

We were limited to $10/person for breakfasts, $25 for lunch, and $50 for dinners. Breakfast and lunch had to be on-site, i.e. at the office. Dinners had to be speaking events for educational purposes and Docs were not allowed to bring the wife unless she worked in the office in a healthcare capacity(RN, LPN, etc.).

If the OP thinks MD's will write Rx's just to get an occasional speaking engagement(comp for these is only $12-1500), he is sorely ignorant. The companies that are members of PHARMA, which is all of the big/medium-sized companies, can't even give out pens/pads/office items anymore. No gift can be given that isn't specifically educational in nature(think wall posters of anatomy and anatomical models) and valued at less than $100.

Yeah...there are some dumbass docs, but as a percentage there are more dumbass pharmacists! Most every male pharmicist I know only did that cause they got rejected from med school. Second yr pharm student and you think you know some shit?

Convenient to dismiss, but my attitude is based off my experience. The vast amount of docs I have dealt with so far have been borderline-clueless about drugs.

edit: Perhaps it's a side-effect of being in a teaching environment

We had clinical Pharm Ds that were assigned to units in the hospital and they were relied on pretty heavily by the MDs. They were around the stuff every day and saw what worked and what didn't.

Not going to deny this. There are some people in my class who I really don't think belong in pharmacy school and just float through.

Off topic, but this is what I want to do and pretty much why I went to pharmacy school.

Really don't want to end up a count&pour doc-in-a box, such a waste of 8 years of school.

My staff is who wants the lunches. Last thing I want during my brief break is some douchebag rep yapping in my ear. I usely just ignore them and do charts or post on TD. Half the time I don't even know what damn drug they have. I will ask them for educational material and copies of studies, but a few shitty lunches isn't going to sway my prescriptive habits.

you should always go to a natural health doctor after going to the regular doctor. they will tell you countless things you can do or take instead of those horrible pills that are bad for your health and body.

like cayenne pepper its one of the best things you can take. it has so many benefits its ridiculous.

its even said it can save your life while having a heart attack
also can lower blood pressure and clear arteries.

Yeah. Next time I treat someone for a heart attack, I'll give a little cayenne and send them on their way.
