Lawmakers introduce bill to void 'Redskins' trademark

quote:

A group of House Democrats on Wednesday introduced a bill that would prevent the term "Redskins" from being trademarked, a move intended to put pressure on the Washington football club to change its name.

This is soooo silly.

It doesn't help the Redskins that the man who chose that name was, in fact, a big blatant racist.

The Redskins should sieze upon this opportunity to make the change... they would then have somebody to blame.

It is a truly fricking terrible name

It is an ethnic epithet, for God's sake

I don't think the government should have any say in the matter. . .but they should change their name.

fricking pussies.

No one is REALLY offended by the name. Someone just decided to attack something for fake racial tension race baiting bull shite.

Pretty soon the atheists will be after the Saint, feminists wil be after the bills because bill is a guy's name, peta will be after all animal nicknames. I guess the Browns, Red Socks, White Socks are good though.

Who pays for the cost of changing the name? I'm sure they have millions of dollars tied up in merchandise, signage, etc. in their current name and logo.

Is the Detroit Lions mascot representative of a Lion, if you don't think of it that way?

Words mean things, and have origins.

Hey, maybe I'm naive. I had no idea people were offended by the term "redskin". That was my boyhood favorite team, only because I associated them with the indians that were always the underdogs in the old cowboy and indian movies. I never took it as a racial term.
