Do any of you tax preparers out there have any experience with how fast the IRS is paying out refunds this year? I know their site says typical is 21 days but they have definitely been faster than that in previous years. Have any of you filed returns for clients and found out that they received their refund faster?

It all depends. Mine was flagged last year and reviewed by hand so it took 9 weeks.

I know some people that have gotten their refund within 7-10 days with direct deposit this year.

Our return was $357, so I'm okay with that number. We did a pretty good job of estimating this time around. My neighbor on the other hand figured he would be getting a refund, but it looks like he's going to owe between $5-6k.

I got mine back in about five days. I've had clients get theirs back in about the same amount of time.

According to my CPA (who is also my father) some e-filed returns are randomly pulled for human review vs. the standard computerized process.
It could have also had to do with the fact that in 2011 I got a refund from the IRS for overpayment on my 2006 return that we had been fighting for 3 years.

E-filed my return Saturday. Just checked the IRS web site and it tells me that my refund will be direct deposited on Monday, so that's eight days.
