re: What are some good places to eat at in Galveston? - C-Bear
We went to Gaido's a few weeks ago. It had been a few years since our last visit, but it wasn't very good. Maybe it was just the night we were there, but it certainly wasn't the Gaido's we remembered. The other poster has some good suggestions....

re: Checking Account Hold: How long is too long? - C-Bear
Another thing that comes into play is your relationship your bank. Concerning the hold on your pay check, they should have been able to pick and choose which item(s) to place the hold on. It doesn't hurt to go back to that branch and ask them to release the funds from your paycheck....

re: Grits in gumbo instead of rice? - C-Bear
I've personally never tried it, but there is a Cajun restaurant near our house that offers gumbo over jalapeño cheese grits with a poached egg on top for breakfast. ...

re: BB's Cafe - Katy, TX - C-Bear
We picked up to go orders the other night. It was okay, we'll give it another try at some point. Seafood To Geaux on Mason has decent poboys and Orleans at Westgreen and I-10 does a decent job as well....

re: Cashing large checks at banks - C-Bear
Like the other poster said, it's not safe. Secondly, banks only have so much on hand at each branch based on their individual volume of business. Cashing that amount without notice could put them in a pinch before their next cash shipment arrives. A CTR would definitely have to be done....

re: So, BP beginning 23% lay off of the Houston workforce today - C-Bear
A major problem with BP's, shall we say extra employees, was because they never really got rid of any operational folks when they sold off those GoM assets. The offshore people went with the new buyers, but the land based folks stayed and were plugged in elsewhere....

re: So, BP beginning 23% lay off of the Houston workforce today - C-Bear
When they did an audit of the company, one in three workers were deemed unnecessary. My husband was told by a close friend that works there that the HSSE department was cut by 40%....

re: So, BP beginning 23% lay off of the Houston workforce today - C-Bear
I shared insight to the board on this very matter a few months ago. It's been in the works for some time. They've been letting people go for a while now and making it uncomfortable for the rest. Tons of people bailed on their own, which means these cuts are on top of all of that......

re: So Chavis was on the phone with Sumlin the morning of the bowl game - C-Bear
What does that have to do with being a good person though? My friend knew him in college and afterwards. Many people change their ways as they get holder. He maintained that Chief never did. I have no reason to believe that he made it up and unfortunately I can't call on him now to elaborate, as...

re: So Chavis was on the phone with Sumlin the morning of the bowl game - C-Bear
Maybe, maybe not. We have all heard that Chief is this loyal upstanding guy, but none of really know the man.
I have refrained from commenting on this, but I do know someone that knew Chavis. I worked with a man that played football with Chavis at Tennessee. After LSU hired him,...

re: British Oil Industry On The Verge Of “Collapse” - C-Bear
Shell gets mentioned quite often. This is partially due to the fact that Lord Browne wrote of a plan for the two to join forces when he was still the head of BP. I was told that when auditors went thru the company to determine the amount of heads to cut that "1 out of every 3 employees were deemed...
Are these rumors still swirling?
Yes. Staff reduction is coming and they all know it. Saw a BP guy in our local HEB last Sunday. He's biding his time in hopes he gets a package...he's a year away from 25 with them. Emails have gone out to those considering early retirement to p...

re: Christmas Decorating Already? - C-Bear
I normally decorate the week of Thanksgiving/weekend. but I started decorating today. The tree isn't up and the banisters aren't done. That will happen next weekend. Our work schedules are horrendous for the next few weeks, coupled with out of town for Thanksgiving and we're invited to our first h...

re: Louie's Cafe (LSU) - C-Bear
We arrived a little after 8:00 this morning because we needed to head back to Houston. It was crowded, but we were seated right away. When we left a little before 9:00am, it was a different story. They had about 10 names on the wait list....

re: Good sections of Houston? - C-Bear
Chinhoyang, I remember that accident. If memory serves me correct, she had taken the kids to pick him up from the airport one night. Driver of the truck took a ramp with way too much speed causing his load to shift and topple the truck onto the family's SUV. Sorry for your loss, no matter how lon...
