French Onion Soup for a Wet Sunday Night (with pictures) edited 1/14

Here is how it went:

5 medium onions, thin sliced

and sauted

until translucent in a half stick of butter and a tablespoon of olive oil.

The supporting cast: Salt (none) and (1 tsp) Black Pepper, (1 tsp.) Thyme, (2) Bay Leaf, 32 oz Beef Bullion, (1/2 cup) good wine

Oh yes, 1 Tablespoon of Kitchen Bouquet and 2 Telma Beef Cube (from Israel will make you reconsider Beef flavored stock cubes).

Everything in pot - not very impressive yet.

Get the Bowls ready with 2 slices of French Bread and 4 Slices of Swiss Cheese per serving.

Ready to bowl

Enough for two

With toasted French Bread Slices

And Swiss Slices

After two minutes under the broiler

On the Table

Nice dinner for a rainy night.

Great pictorial! Looks delicious ... and I love your bowls.

PS - Put "with pictures" in title so more people will come and look!

How long did that take to crank out?

Looks good. Best one I ever had was in some hotel in Dallas. Can't remember the name....

Thank you Miss Darla.

The bowls come from a potter in the Craft Guild in Gatlinburg, TN. We have six of them and use them about a hundred times a week.

French Onion soup cooks very fast. It took about an hour for the soup plus ten minutes to take the photos.

My wife didn't like the way I sat the table and redid it for me.

Great rainy night meal. We don't do it often enough.

What do you keep in your pink and clear glass vintage refrigerator dishes? :nosy:

The wife (May Her Name Be Praised Forever) collects depression glass (American Sweetheart - Pink). We have the worlds biggest collection (not). And she has lots of other depression glass. I think those were originally Butter Dishes. The clear dish has salt and the pink dish has sugar. I always taste to make certain.

Maybe I'll post our Cracker/biscuit jars one day.

Everyone:

Thanks. Hadn't tried to take photos in the past. Hard to make even good food look good.
