I'll be in Gonzales next weekend for a baseball tournament my son is playing in. Since Gonzales is known for it's Jambalaya, where is the best in town to get some? Also, what are some other good spots to eat at?

Go to Murray's grocery on Sat morning. They cook a fresh 15 gallon pot every Sat and sell out by 2. I think its $5.00 a plate with beans and bread. Good jamb. I've eaten it before and its done right. It's usually pork and sausage but sometimes its made with chicken and sometimes both.

This.
Hwy 429 in St. Amant next to the Middle School/Football stadium.

About 15 minutes away there is Hilltop, Kevin's and Saritas. The first two are seafood the third is Mexican, all are on the Diversion Canal and better than average food for the area...

The Jambalaya Shoppe has the greasiest jambalaya I've ever seen, I would check out some of the other suggestions first. Mike's Poboys on E. Worthy is walking distance from the ball park, it is one of my favorites, very authentic N.O. style poboys.

Not a restaurant, but ...
Ralph's supermarket on Highway 44. Best smoked chicken and smoked pork chops in town. And they serve jambalaya.

Second the Ralph's.
Leader's for some fried chicken, Starlite for lunch, they have sandwiches, soups, and salads. If you do see a jambalaya fundraiser stop and get a plate, it will be good. Although I don't know who's cooking a jambalaya when its 95 degrees outside.

Sno's Seafood on Airline's a pretty good option.

Born & raised in Gonzales, & I agree with Murray's for the Jambalaya. Jambalaya Shoppe is good. Ralph's is also good and they do jambalaya on Saturdays as well I believe. Murray's is the best.
#1 rule while you are here: Go to Cal's Bakery and get fresh doughnuts. And get there early.
Other suggestions:
Cade's frozen custard for all of your frozen dairy dessert needs.
Kamal's Kafe for greek/lebanese
Griffin Grill in Dutchtown for burgers & shakes
Golden Buddha for the sesame chicken, crab rangoons, pineapple delights, lo mein, & fried shrimp covered in the sesame chicken sauce. But don't expect too much else. Their buffet is small but what they have is (usually) good.
Leader's for fried chicken & catfish. Get the sauce to go with either..
Tureau's Groceries on 431 in St. Amant for the poboys.
Hello Tokyo for Sushi (only for lack of options, but still nice)
Casa Maria for mexican (again, only for lack of options, but not bad)
Sno's is OK, but if you must pay an arm and a leg for seafood, go to Kevin's or Hill Top.

Yep. Last time I was over there was two years ago and we just ate at the ballpark. I think I'll try Murray's since several people have mentioned it. I appreciate all the suggestions.

While in town, check out Houmas House on River Road. They have a daytime cafe with the most packed seafood poboys youll find. Plus, youll wanna see the place anyway.
I dont think they serve jambalaya though. Still worth checking out... best tourist attraction in the state.
