Champagne with a Meal

Usually I only drink champagne for toasts at special occasions or new years, but tonight is my girlfriend's birthday and we are going to her favorite steak house.
I decided to surprise her with a special hard to find champagne that she really likes, and am considering bringing it to the steakhouse before hand and enjoying it with the meal. Already spoke with the restaurant, and they are cool with it for a corking fee.
Is this advisable, and if so, at which point during the meal? Before/during/after? Or should I just wait to enjoy it as a digestif after we get back home?

We usually drink it with the apps. It makes the portion of the meal pre-salad/soup a bit longer but that's the fun of it. It'd be better if you could bring it by before hand and not carry it in. Be nice if it was presented when you first sit down.

Yeah I like that idea. I am definitely going to bring it in before hand, and have it presented when we first sit down would be a sweet move. Thanks for the suggestion, will be doing that.

You'll really enjoy it.
Like the above poster, we'll have champagne/rose in place of a pre-meal cocktail. Good palate cleanser.
Which bottle of champagne, if you don't mind? We need more wine talk on this board. These beer dorks are getting out of hand.

Which bottle of champagne
It's a Brut Rose Cava. I forget the specific kind. I know a decent amount about wine, but not enough to have an intelligent conversation about it.

Leave it back at the casa for the post game recount off the night, enjoy the wines at the restaurant that are meant to be consumed with the food.

I have some qualifiers. We'll only consider bringing wine to a restaurant if:
1) It is pretty rare/ready to drink
2) Not on the restaurant's wine list
3) They have a corkage fee
4) Offer a taste to both the waiter and sommilier
5) Always order something from their list, as well
Damn you, people: I'm getting into the wine tonight.

Yep, my situation covers all those. Hadn't considered number 4, but I may do that as well.

I drink Champagne before dinner, during dinner, after dinner, and by itself regularly. It's one of the more versatile wines in that it goes with many things. In your case, I'd have a glass before the meal, drink red wine with your steak, then maybe have a glass or two with dessert or after the meal.

If it's not on the restaurant's list, you've called ahead and gotten the okay and the corkage fee, it's perfectly acceptable to bring that champagne and I think it's a lovely idea.
Cool's plan sounds like a great way for you both to enjoy the champagne. Have a great night.
