Why did we give Ridley 19 carries?

I like Ridley and think he is a good player with talent, but I really question this.

First of all kid has proven a fumbler so far, I think Ridley has talent, but he fumbled last year, and fumbled twice against UNC. If you fumble you should be punished accordingly. What really angers me, is that it doesn't seem like that has happened. Its not like Ridley is Mark Ingram, who you give the benefit of the doubt, Ridley has not earned his keep yet like that. No doubt in my mind Saban would've benched him. At the very least, 1st carry next game should go to another RB on the team next week. I know there have threads about Kielland being benched for fumbles, well this guy has fumbled in multiple games now without being demoted.

Second, I really can not beleive we gave him the lion's share of the carries this past weekend. Is he really our guy? So much that we give him 19 of the 21 carries that went to our true RB's? I think shepard should have had at least 4 more carries this past weekend, and Ford, Murphy (who also fumbled) and maybe even Ware should have gotten a couple of carries.
I have no problem with Ridley getting 12-14 carries and being our primary RB, but I dislike the fact that we gave Ridley 19 carries, and was truly horrified when he fumbled away two of them.
After the game, he was quoted saying 'I didn't have the best game," which I also disliked, he's a leader on this team and he needs to step into the role. Other players need to see him own up to his big mistakes.
This past week stat line had Ridley with 19 carries, Jefferson with 7 (I think), Shepard with 5, and Murphy with 2. In all honesty, I think Shepard should have had at least 4 more carries this weekend. He had 3 touches in the 1st half and 4 in the second.

Either way, I think this year's has the potential to be very very good if we cant cut out the mistakes...

It's one thing if Ridley is our best RB, but I have a hard time believing he's the best we have.

He fumbled once last year. How were they to know he would drop the rock when he did.

His second fumble was on his last carry so you can't really say why did he get so many carries with two fumbles. If he gets yanked after only 1 fumble then people would complain too. We'll see what the carries look like against Vandy.

The kid needs some real good coaching, but also some tough love this week in practice. He should be removed from first string. I expect to see more of his 19 attempts distributed elsewhere this weekend. He'll get his shot I'm sure, but Miles needs to learn what tough love can do. Maybe he does it in practice, but I just don't see it from him in games. Time to start up that Ford.

He fumbled at the 12 on the 1st possesion of the 2nd half too. I would have given him some bench time to think about it. I would have at least let someone else tote a few times before he touched it again.

He should have gotten 18 carries.

Because he runs hard and seems to always fall forward. you don't see him getting knocked on his back.

If we need 1 or 2 yards, he is exactly who I want running the ball.

Me as well. Even if Ridley is our best guy and our #1, do we really have to give him 19 carries, instead of 12-14 or so?

Had t-bob not gotten called for the hold ridley would have rushed for over 100 yards, what more do you want aside from ball security.

Me too, but he ran it 19 times... our true RB's only had 21 carries in the game and he had 19. That is my point, and then he fumbled, to make it even worse.

Thanks for the insight, and I agree. I just wanted to see if I was the only one, it seems like the rant is mad at everyone but Ridley. I like Ridley, his run that got called back was excellent, but I was furious when he fumbled, especially in those situations, it gave UNC another chance to steal the game.

Besides Murphy, who else would we put in? Do we throw in true freshman?

I'd rather see Shep get as many carries as Ridley. See no reason why Ridley can't get about 10 or so carries and Shep get about the same number of carries. Shep/Ridley could be the Reggie Bush/LenDale White of 2005.

Because Les Miles is our coach and he wants to pound the ball with a physical running back.
