Me as well. Even if Ridley is our best guy and our #1, do we really have to give him 19 carries, instead of 12-14 or so?

First, Stevan has to hold onto the ball. He knows it and I dont think it will be a problem again. That aside, he ran the ball like a beast. He pounded for first downs and showed unbelievable cutting and acceleration for a 230lb back. His touchdown run called back is one of LSU's best runs over the last couple years.

For his size he has incredible talent. LSU fans will be glad they have him. One of the most talented backs in the SEC. A team player and hard worker. He leaves his heart on the field every time he plays. That kind of commitment deserves and demands respect imo.

because in the weeks leading up to game day he proved to be our best option. he knows the system and until sat last he was pretty good about protecting the rock. I could be wrong, but Murphy looks like a situational back and obviously the staff thinks Ford needs more time. the staff did a good job of getting Shep his touches in the first half and the second half just didn't shape up for him. we all look forward to an improved run game...but losing Blackwell on the first play really caused some issues and now our oline kids have got to step up.

The most encouraging part of the run game was that one back was allowed to rush 19 times. In past years too many backs shared the duties, thus, no continuity was established at the position.

Naturally, if Ridley continues to fumble, then someone else should be given running priority. I have no doubt the coaches have focused on that, not just with him, but with all running backs.

Ridley himself has declared that his fumbling is unacceptable and has taken full responsibility for it as well as for correcting the problem.

So, the problem is being addressed. The results will be seen in the Vandy game and other games.

I do like the idea that one back gets the majority of touches. Having said that, there is still plenty of touches left for Shep and others to get a chance to run for daylight.

Goooo Tigers. Love this team.

He had some really good runs during the game, hard to fault him outside of the fumbles. He knows if he fumbles again, he will likely end up on the bench, so we shall see...

I hear that fumble-itis is hard to cure.

I hope that's just an old wives (or coach's) tale.

Ford is the best running back we have ( Spring game ), why is he in Mile's dog house? He doesn't fumble.

I agree. It was great to see Miles allow a running back to get into some kind of rhythm by not using the running back by committee approach. THe fumbles were very costly, but he should learn from this game.

Also, there was a thread on here the other day about how Ridley owned up to his mistakes when interviewed by saying a hell of a lot more than "I didnt have my best game." I would love to see him get 19 carries every game if he eliminates the fumbles and goes for over 100 yards. What more can you ask?

I know there have threads about Kielland being benched for fumbles

I'm pretty sure he only fumbled once in his college career

I'd rather see Shep get as many carries as Ridley. See no reason why Ridley can't get about 10 or so carries and Shep get about the same number of carries. Shep/Ridley could be the Reggie Bush/LenDale White of 2005.

Because Shep is a wr?

I think when this team finds its mid-season groove, Ridley and Ford will be the best tandem we've seen in a while. Just improve the ball security, because Ridley can run.

I didn't think of that.

Seriously though, is Shep best suited for WR? He sure looks better running with the ball to me. Couldn't he be a Reggie Bush/Percy Harvin hybrid at the college level?? I seem to recall Bush being a part time wideout at some point in his USC career. Same with Harvin. They eventually saw more touches from the TB spot.

What if Shep rips up a knee running the ball at the end of the third quarter with us up 3 touchdowns?

Y'all would have been all over the coaches about not pulling him from the game, and this board would have melted down with the Miles hate for ruining the kid's career by running him unnecessarily

I think the Vikings should just cut Adrian Peterson after last year's performance. It is only one game. We won and if he does it again I am sure he will grab some bench. What if Miles would have bemched Lafel a few years ago due to all his drops? He turned out pretty good. We all just have to be patient.
