re: Why did we give Ridley 19 carries?

Ridley deserves the carries and proved himself to be a capable runner. He should have got the 100yd mark if not for a penalty. The fumbles will be fixed.

I'm pretty sure he only fumbled once in his college career

This has nothin to do with the threads about Keilland being benched for fumbles. Supposedly he fumbled in practice

Ford is the best running back we have
False. Ford is a highly-touted back up. But this is LSU, and highly-touted back ups MUST be the best thing since sliced bread.
Plain and simple, if we were Florida in 2008, people would have bitched up to and including the BCS NC that Tebow should get more carries, all the while Leak was leading that team to a NC.
Wilson is a great coach, so let him decide when Ford is ready. As has been stated multiple times on this board, being a RB also entails knowing the play book and picking up blitzes.
Oh, and if the spring game is your benchmark for who is the best tailback, then Murphy is far more suited to be the #1 guy since he has had multiple stellar performances in the spring game compared to Ford's single instance. That argument holds no water.

i just want someone else to get some carries as well. i dont meant to bench ridley but to cut his carries down 14-15 and give murphy or ford some carries

Seriously though, is Shep best suited for WR? He sure looks better running with the ball to me. Couldn't he be a Reggie Bush/Percy Harvin hybrid at the college level?? I seem to recall Bush being a part time wideout at some point in his USC career. Same with Harvin. They eventually saw more touches from the TB spot.
We have so much talent that we gotta spread the ball around. Its insane that we have so much talent at the skill position. Shep is special, but RR, Deangelo Peterson and many others are too.

Exactly. Which is why it seems almost wasteful to say Shep is strictly a WR. He is the most special offensive player we have. Hands down. So put the ball in his hands, anyway possible. Throw it to him, toss it to him or hand it to him. And it doesn't have to always be gimmicky.

Ridley is pretty good. 19 carries is not all that much for a #1 tailback.
drama queen.
I agree Shep needs the ball, but this whole thread sucks IMO.

I'm a firm believer that he went to town on one of the coaches daughters...

The fumbles were not the main problem imo. If you had to look at one mistake it was the personal foul for roughing the punter. That cost us 7 more plays for the defense and 7 points. It gave them some hope. 30-3 at half would have been a tougher hill to climb. With that said- Miles hates people who don't value the ball. I would think some of the other RB will get their chance against Vandy.

Yeah, then again, you want to keep Shep fresh for the rest of the season. Giving him carries in a game we're up by 20 in seems kinda bleh.

This is the sentiment of many people, but I cannot possibly understand it. We had a RB that, minus a horrendous holding call, would have rna for 100+ yards and averaged over 5 yds per carry against the best front 7 we will face this year outside of Saban, and people still want to see their favorite back get the ball. It is preposterous. If a guy is going to give us averages like that, IDC who it is, give him the rock.
The fumbling is simple, IMHO. If it happens against Vandy, punish him with lack of playing time. Other than that, let the kid start. He ran his arse off and made a statement in yesterday about how focused he will be this week on ball security. Give him the benefit of the doubt until he has proven otherwise in 2010.

He's puttin better than 10% of his carries in the dirt. Seriously though, its the way he carried the ball on the last fumble that makes me think he is an idiot. Is he a good back? Sure.. but is that performance on Saturday enough to keep Murphy and Ford from potentially getting the bulk of the carries? Of course not. Lets see what our 'brain trust' has in store this week.
Posted on 9/8/10 at 10:48 am to Jcorye1
I'm speaking more from an overall offensive philosophy standpoint. Not just the UNC game. Although that game certainly gave us a glimpse at the LSU philosophy.

debatable, but Carter and Studrivant are the best LB's well face

its just one game.
let's see who else can be blessed as ready to block and know the plays.

We went through a multiple page debate yesterday discussing this topic, and it was determined that Florida may match UNC with their front 7, and Alabama has a slight edge, but they are better than everyone else, even with their suspensions.

what does a hundred yrds mean if you fumble twice in a game. I dont know y ppl think fumbling is something easy to fix if it was Adrian peterson would have done that by now. and for that person who put ridley on AP's level is crazy. im not saying punish him yet, i just want to see if is truly the best back. i want murphy to get his shot in the vandy game since ridley got the nod in the first. if murphy doesnt do well then Ridley and maybe ford should get the carries. But ridley with those 2 fumbles did not seperate himself from everyone else

quote:and no one is arguing with that, I know I'm not, but when you have monsters on the sidelines like Ford and whoever else(Ware), you take advantage of teams and pound them to death with all. I guess Ford was punished or something like some said!
Ridley desrves the carries and proved himself a capable runner.
