So I met this girl and we have been talking for a bit and she was reading one of the Twilight books. She told me that the movie was really good but when I heard about the "plot" it sounded pretty gay / lame to me. Then I came to work and I heard a guy say that it wasn't a bad movie. Anyway, when I get home from this business trip she wants me to watch it with her which I probably will to make her happy, but I'm just wondering if it's going to be like a typical chick-flick or is it actually a somewhat entertaining 2 hrs?

It is not. It isn't the worst film out there but you won't think of it as anything other than a chick flick.

Doesn't even have what little charm exists for the book series. It is all nothing more than Hollywood looking to make oodles of money ala Titanic.

Much more character development in the books. Just have to forget all the vampire stuff you know and take it for what its worth. A love story with moral monsters.

And the irritating thing is that the character development is the only reason why the book is worthwhile IMO.

Comes across like they just slapped a script together to make a movie.

I agree. I saw the movie before I read the books (on the 4th one now). I'm afraid from here on out, the movies will be disappointing.

Yeah if you didn't read the books the movie probably comes off worse than it is already. The author give you just enough action to keep you reading but drowns you in every detail of each character. I am almost finished the fourth book and it is by far my favorite so far. I got suckered into these when the wife started reading them and wouldn't shut up about how good they were and I picked up the first one after she was finished.

my husband was nice enough to come with me to see Twilight. Halfway into it I leaned over to him and apologised.

Wow these responses seem to be pretty different from the few opinions I've heard. ALthough everyone that posted didn't say much good about the moive. Books aer pretty well always better than the movies but it doesn't sound like it's worth watching.... Kinda sounds like The Notebook part 2 which I didn't find to be any good but I guess I'm in a minority there...

That being said, I'm curious to know what any guys that have read / reading the books think about them. I'm not much into the whole romance thing, I normally read mystery novels etc. I figure the books can't be all bad since it's such a big hit but when I hear these girls talk about it it seems like all there is in the big is romance etc. That doesn't seem like anything guys would normally read, but maybe I'm not right in thinking that the only plot is romance?

Yeah there is alot more going on than bella trying to get some vampire cock. Fight sequences are pretty well done while not overly gorey in the book they are entertaining. There was a fair bit of romance but it wasn't so bad as to make me not want to keep reading as I was more interested in where the books were going as far as the interaction with the indian tribe in La Push and the other vampire covens.

I'm a girl and read them all. When I put down the last book, I sighed a sigh of relief and little of disgust. The book is great for female teenagers. My students LOVED them and I pretended to love them too (when kids get into a book- you go with it). But honestly, it was too obsessive. It was exhausting.

If you like mystery novels and/or read a lot, you will not like these books.

OBSESSIVE romance! About 800 time in one book, I'm thinking "GEEZ you met the guy a week ago, you freak."

If you have to be involved in it, watch the movie.

Okay, the movie wasnt that bad. It's just really rare that I ask my husband to go to chick movies with me. I had just finished the 1st book and was anxious to see the movie.

He really didnt like it, but he didnt mind it.

Ask her if she'll let you watch it with Rifftrax commentary on it, and then the movie will be far more entertaining.

Thank you.

And I won't get into her bastardization of Vampire Mythos...

That kinda worries me b/c my girl is 25 haha. Her her sister and several of their friends are definitely what I consider border-line obssessed with this whole thing. I really don't understand it. I mean vampires that don't kill people, werewolves in love... the whole thing seems SOO far-fetched from the outside looking in. I really don't even understand how a movie can be made from it....

Of course, she then turns around and says "well you are obsessed with LSU football, you say it's more important than everything" which is a true and fair statement, the main difference being that the book she is reading is fiction while LSU football is real.

I guess it's just one of those things I'll never understand, like the need for Coach purses...

A couple of weeks ago my girlfriend and I were visiting her brother and his family in the 'burbs. BTW, I hate the 'burbs...

Anyway, one of the women at the pool in their subdivision gave my future sister in law a copy of "Twilight", and told her that it's an easy read. I laughed at that, and said, "Of course it is. It's targeted for 14 year old girls." The woman and her little group of friends seemed offended, and she said, "No, it's aimed at stay at home moms, too." I bit my tongue to stop from saying, "Well, they have the same mental age..."

The funny thing is that my future sister in law is only reading it right now out of sheer boredom, as she recently had a kid. She's going back to work next month, and she'll be reading some more complex stuff then, as she's the chair of a psychology department.

Actually, I may want to get her take on that book.

Yea I've kinda hinted around that I think they may be going a bit too far with the infatuation with "Edward" but even though I don't understand it it seems to make her happy so that's fine. The way I look at it, it's a relatively cheap hobby and it seems to keep her occupied when I am doing things that I want to do , like watching the CWS.

She just finished book 3 and is starting on 4 now. I'm pretty curious to see how she takes it when she finishes the series... I have no doubt there will be a happy ending, b/c anything else and noone would read the book.

Here's one of my problems with this crap: Vampires are not nice people. They make Edward or whatever out to be a nice guy. Sorry, doesn't work that way. Sure, some can possibly do good, but at some point, his "nature" would take over and he would drain that bitch dry and/or turn her. Then SHE would be a monster.

Stop romanticizing them. Of course, I'm really pissed off at that the state of the science fiction/fantasy world, particularly the Vampire genre recently because of all of the utter shite that's on the shelves right now.

Yes, one can say that I've been pretty pissed off for a few years now...

Saw it on DVD. Its "vampire lite", and its not that great. Its good for chicks and teenage girls though.
