ok i was on a saints forum and poll from the advocate was posted that asked if you approved of Jindal's proposed deal with the saints LINK and currently the results are 52% yes, 43% no, and 5% unsure...this started a debate about whether baton rouge residents hate the city of new orleans and the saints, which i thought was ridiculous. but many of the people on that forum are under the impression that it is some age old truth that baton rouge people and lsu fans think anything that doesn't benefit lsu isnt worth funding or somethin like that, so i wanted to pose the question on the rant and see what yall think?

BR/LSU and NO/Saints are a lot of the same people FWIW.
The only difference is the priority. The majority of people in Louisiana put LSU first and the Saints second, but there is a nice contingent that puts the Saints first and LSU second. That said, it's all the same group of people.

id put more blame on north la for those numbers. Some of the saints fans that are only saints fans do push others away with silly ideas though.

I love LSU and root for the Saints.
I think most people who were disappointed by the deal were disappointed because the state is still paying the Saints to be here while making huge cuts in education health care.
IMO those people aren't looking at the big picture - but I doubt the poll had anything to do with LSU/BR disliking NO/Saints.

right. The dividing line seems to be people from the NOLA area compared to everyone else in the state. People from NOLA tend to put the Saints first, the rest of the state puts LSU first.
Also, a higher % of Louisiana residents are LSU fans compared to Saints fans.
Do some people people in BR hate all things NOLA? yes. Same with some people in NOLA hating all things non-NOLA....the hate actually seems more prominent from the Nola folks.

to me, it seems like most of the people claiming that there is resentment there are people who are fans of other schools, like tulane for example, and they have their own hate for lsu and are using this type of thing to vent

I live in BR now and earlier in my life central LA. Most if not all of my friends and family, growin up and these days too, are LSU & Saints fans.
Priority in team depends on who is winning or more successful at that any given time, but every Sat. we watch the Tigers and every Sun. we watch the Saints.
I would not want to lose the privilege of watching either!
The only resentment comes from Tulane and UL fans towards LSU, from what I see.
But I did not attend college in the State of Louisiana, so it’s just funny to me!

Are you kidding?!!! I love the Saints, but they are second to LSU.
STILL BIG SAINTS FAN, just bigger LSU fan.

anyone against that deal has to be either clueless or brain dead. It was a win-win for both parties

I could care less about the saints. They seem to be a drain on Louisiana in my opinion, but Im not going to pretend to know all the facts. It may be profitable....I dont know.

Most LSU fans like myself are huge Saints fans... but I think the opposite is not reciprocal! I live in BR, so it's cheaper & easier to attend LSU games. The city of New Orleans should be thankful the state supports the Saints!

I have no problem with the Saints. I just hate Tom Benson

I grew up in Baton Rouge as a huge Saints fan. So were all of my friends. That being said, there are quite a few BR folks who have idiotic zero-sum mentalities about LSU sports and by extension the Saints.
The Manships, who own the Advocate, are clearly in this mold. They publish editorials ripping the Saints every time an opportunity presents itself.
But they aren't representatives of everyone outside of New Orleans.

Can't speak for the BR/NO thing, but I've been a lifelong suffering Saints fan, and always will be.

Love LSU...could give a damn about the Saints.

I think the big picture, as someone else stated, is that while almost all of Louisiana (minus masybe Shreveport and North Louisiana's Cowboy whores) support the Saints just as much as the next guy, their priorities are more about things that directly affect them. More specifically education and health care.
In the end, I love the Saints and will support them as long as they are in NOLA, but despite their potential income into the state, we shouldn't be handcuffing the state financially when there are much more critical problems at hand.

Always been and LSU and a Saints fan and in that order. Maybe the issue has to do more with the fact that the state (the taxpayer) is subsidizing a private business that pays its employees (atheletes) millions of dollars per year, has a pretty good lease deal on the Dome and still charges its fans, patrons, customers, etc. a lot of money for three hours of entertainment. Don't know, just throwin' out a possibility.
