The fact of the matter is this...The Saints are New Orleans' team and LSU is Louisiana's team!

I'm from lake charles and have been an LSU from birth and a saints fan from about 6(When I went to my first saints game).
I can't imagine not having both. The last few years have been great for LSU. We've been to the top of the mountain and back up again. I will be very upset if I don't get to experience the same thing with the saints while there here.

This was and still is somewhat of an issue. Hey, your turf/college fb, my turf/nfl fb. I think the older generations really defended their turf. They can be ignorant too. They didn't realize they should/or need to support both teams, for the state and city to prosper. I'm gen X and see this more as a win-win.

I live in central La. but grew up in BR during a time which I rarely saw a Saints game. They were usually blacked out. I have been to many Saints games and do pull for them, and generally all other Louisiana teams. But LSU football is no.1 and will always be. It is the Louisiana Flagship.

I do disagree with the state paying Benson to stay. That bastard payed 30 million for the Saints and it is now worth over 500 million, and he feels the need to blackmail La. to stay. That means it is all about the money, and from the buisiness side I see that. But now for me it is about the money, and that is my money, and I don't get a fucing penny return for my investment.

I understand that a large portion of NO enonomy is based on the Saints. Well, let NO pay the ransom, of course, that is the story of New Orleans, first the World's fair, then the Superdome, now the Saints, state is always bailin them out.

the state will make $26 billion of the Saints in the next 25 years not including the Superdome. The state gets more than enough compensation for this deal.

its a win-win situation and the deal pays for itself. Both sides got a good deal and now New Orleans won't look like shite after the New Orleans Centre is renovated

Its an investment for the state no different than what other states offer businesses (like movie industry). The state would have 0 chance of replacing this income if the state left.

Last year alone, the Saints pumped $600 million into the Louisiana economy

try to be a little more informed next time you make the claims about the state bailing out New Orleans, when the state is receiving a significant economical advantage which keeps taxes down (your return investment)

So, you are saying that ALL this money is coming in from the Saints, yet they need to be paid their operations going. They sound like a non-profit orginisation that needs gov funds to keep going.

all that money is coming from the Saints to the state in terms of taxes.

The Saints are in not only one of the smaller markets in the NFL, but also one of the poorest. The additional profits helps the Saints stay competitive compared to the rest of the NFL.

I've done my research on the situation, have you?

A superbowl alone could bring in $300 million, but I'm sure the state of louisiana could get $26 billion in revenue from other sources or businesses

they are a major NFL business, who are offered incentives just like other industries around the country

I get it, the state makes money, but the Saints don't, or just not enough to suit them. Does that about sum it up or am I still wrong?

yes, the Saints make money. Less money than they would make in a larger market compared to the rest of the NFL.

Most small market teams are struggling financially right now (Jacksonville, Minn., Buffalo) and are in danger of leaving their cities.

Its a win-win, and the deal should lock up the 2013 Super Bowl (New Orleans has never lost a bid). But the Saints should just go ahead and be a non-profit organization and forget the 4,600 people they employ. The rest of the NFL wanted the deal done, and New Orleans is going to get rewarded for it.

Then I am right, they are not making enough money to suit them.
So, if the state is making so much money off the Saints, why not just cut their taxes instead of paying on the back end. It may be the same result in the end, but it doesn't look like extortion.

Now NORTH La. folks are a different breed altogether. They were already Dallas Cowboy fans when the Saints started. They didn't have a reason to change at all. Once again these were folks who, for the most part, were not big college football fans but loved the NFL. So they stayed Cowboy fans and could care less about the Saints.

Say What?! Watching the Saints on Sunday on KNOE was a ritual at our house. There are a ton of Saints fans in North Louisiana. Shreveport is probably closer to 50-50 Saints/Cowboys because of the reach into East Texas and So. Arkansas.

Not big college fans? Are you serious? With the likes of Bert Jones, Terry Bradshaw, and Joe Ferguson coming out of North Louisiana we never had any reason to follow college football. You have some misguided perceptions, my friend. (Don't mean that as an insult).

so now business incentives are extortion?

you haven't brought up a good point yet to why the deal shouldn't be made or why it isn't good for the state of Louisiana. It isn't an if statement either, the state IS making money of the Saints and have for a long time. The Super Bowl will be huge for the state, and this long term deal made it possible. Most other teams use tax payers money to build football stadiums and then give the naming rights to their teams. The Saints don't have that luxury and this helps make up for that.

Isn't that North Louisiana chicken plant getting a ton of state money to stick around? I am not gonna see a penny of that tax money why the hell are they doing that.

I'm a student at LSU and from New Orleans. I've been going to both LSU and Saints games for as long as I can remember and love both of them, but the Saints (and the NFL in general) are #1 for me when it comes to football. I'll probably get blasted for saying this but for me, LSU could win the NC every year and it would never compare to a Saints Superbowl win.

As far as Baton Rouge disliking New Orleans...working up here for the past couple years with people from the B.R. area, there's alot of resentment against N.O. for the problems in traffic, housing, crime, etc.

Just about every game is sold out in NO LA, so no. Less would see in BR LA. The city of BR is NOT a draw.

So the overall sentiment of this thread is that LSU fans are mostly Saints fans, but the evidence I've seen doesn't necessarily support that.

the hate some people in BR show for the saints is just dumb. im not a saints fan but im also not so insecure that i feel threatened by them being in this state. im glad the deal got worked out.
