I may go to a saints game if someone gives me a ticket, but I usually turn them down.. Inside, piped in music.. not for me.. The year after katrina was really good for the city though..
Nothing like Sat Night in Tiger Stadium..

I don't HATE Benson, but he's totally incompetent as an owner. It all starts at the top. That's why the organization has such miserable long term success ON THE FIELD. Benson is not cheap. He spends the money, but is just just clueless about who he needs to have in place to run the organization. Just totally clueless. The Saints need a really good VP of Football Operations/General Manger and they don't because Benson doesn't have a clue who to hire. (Look how FAST Bill Parcels has turned the Dolphins around) Mickey Loomis just isn't going to cut it and I have serious doubts if Sean "Haslett" Peyton is the answer either. The Saints haven't had anybody competent in the front office since Jim Finks, but as long as Benson is making a nice profit, I seriously doubt you'll see him sell the team to somebody local who has the football smarts to do what really needs to be done to make the Saints CONSISTANT winners......

I love the Saints, but it seems like the city of new orleans takes out of NOLA support for granted when it comes to the Saints, if we didn't support the Saints the city of NOLA couldn't support the saints on their own.

you think Haslett would have ever gave up his own salary to bring in the best coordinator available?

I lose more respect for you with every post

anyway, the Saints are going to bring in $26 billion for the state in taxes over the next 25 years (if they stay that long). That doesn't include any SuperBowls and Benson is actually going to make the city look nicer by renovating the dump that is the New Orleans Center (the state would have never got around to that) which should attract more businesses.

It's a win-win situation

Getting back to the original question, the year after Katrina when the Saints played 4 home games in TS, the attendance was abysmal. I had always thought that LSU and Saints fans came from the same group of people, but I doubted it after those games. I also remember people on the Rant who were furious that LSU was allowing the Saints to play in TS, because they were going to ruin the field for the LSU games (and there were quite a few of people with this view... not just a minority).

So the overall sentiment of this thread is that LSU fans are mostly Saints fans, but the evidence I've seen doesn't necessarily support that.

"I have no problem with the Saints. I just hate Tom Benson"

I don't hate the man and he has done better than the one who came before him, but he/Saints leave a lot to be desired. imo

first, it seems that tom benson getting phased out and rita benson-leblanc is taking over for the most part, so hopefully she is a little more savvy and can bring better spending which will lead to more on the field success, but then to the point of supporting the saints. i can understand if someone isn't a saints fan and doesn't watch and all, but how in the hell can anyone who is a louisiana resident be against them staying in NO and resent them (other than from a football perspective)? they are gonna bring so much revenue back that would be extremely hard to replace if they left..think of how much money is made on those 8 sundays a year, not to mention the free publicity the city gets when on MNF or when the super bowl comes, not to mention the players spending those huge salaries in state too

yes, I know my parents in Ruston have been against the Saints previous deals with the state. They don't think they get anything from the Saints being in New Orleans. They appeased them by having training camp up there but quit that practice.

That pretty much sums up my opinion too.

I don't pay much attention to the NFL until the playoffs

ok i understand that, but are yall against having this team in NO, because like yall said, its a business, and pretty lucrative one at that, and it does generates money for the state

I love LSU first because they produce winners ... I don't hate Tom Benson and I'll never be sold as a Saints fan ... so long as you have a wealthy owner who does not (just because your ver rich, doesn't make that person a bright person when it comes to sports) ... The man "Benson" and his grand-daughter will never bring a consistent winner with S.B. potential to the state of LA or N.O. for that fact ... they are in it, to line their own pockets first, not bring in a great G.M. who can draft consitently and make trades that will bring the Saints to the top ... thus I will root for them as a LA citizen and not win Championships.

Your knowledge on the matter is as poor as your grammar. Benson may not choose the best GMs, but it's not for lack of spending. He has one of the smallest markets in the NFL and he's been in the top 3rd of the NFL in terms of spending. He was an absolute bitch after Katrina, but other than that he's a solid owner.

In my personal experience, the only people in NOLA that don't like LSU are Tulane fans, and I know of some that still pull for them in BCS games and such. I know a lot of NOLA people that pull for LSU despite having no connection to the school. When I went to LSU, most of my friends were from NOLA. For the two years I worked there, however, all of my many co-workers were BR natives, and they all actively rooted against the Saints.

I put LSU first. I have season tickets to LSU the last saints game i wanted to go to was the ATL game. For me, the saints broke my heart as a kid and I stopped carrying.

I grew up in New Orleans and went to college out of state. I came back to New Orleans in 1960 and have always been an LSU fan even though many of my family and friends went to Tulane. I have been a season ticket holder for LSU since 1962 and for the Saints since they set up shop in 67. I have not noticed a lot of dislike from BR folks toward the Saints. The priority is LSU first and that is quite understandable. Many in New Orleans put the Saints first but I have found many of them were not huge fans of college football to start with. HUGE NFL fans but their saturdays were used for fishing. So when the Saints got here they thought they had died and turned into real saints in heaven.
Now NORTH La. folks are a different breed altogether. They were already Dallas Cowboy fans when the Saints started. They didn't have a reason to change at all. Once again these were folks who, for the most part, were not big college football fans but loved the NFL. So they stayed Cowboy fans and could care less about the Saints.

I am an LSU fan first, followed closely by the Saints. In my last 6 years living in BR, I haven't really seen any Saints hate from the locals. Now, Shreveport residents are a totally different story. And to the poster who said Saints fans are trashy, there is some truth to that. But it is equal to amount of white trash that is on campus for an LSU game.
