One of the best bass lakes in the world and want to keep it that way.
In order to keep it that way, people need to catch and eat some of the fish. That's why the limits are established how they are. Pure catch and release fishing is not always (is it ever?) a good way to manage a body of water. So many fry are eaten every year or out competed for food that the amount of bass that fishermen pull from toledo is a small percentage. If you like eating bass, then keep them and eat them knowing full well you've done the lake no harm.
Now if we are talking about small ponds, this is an entirely different discussion and you need to consider 1. What you're managing the pond for (trophies? Quality fish? Numbers?) 2. What the current situation of the pond is 3. What time of the year it is, Etc...
ETA: Not to mention that putting bass in a live well and releasing them later in your cove definitely increases the mortality rate of this fish over ones that are immediately released. I'm on my phone so can't cite research right now but I'll come back later with links.

I love to eat bass but seldom keep any. Normally when I do it's from a pond.
If I do keep some from lakes I never keep one over 2 lbs. Too many people where I live abuse daily limits and keep way too many fish as it is... I try not to add to the problem.

Best fish to eat IMO, I don't care to clean the big ones, so I usually throw anything over 4 back.

I was in lake bouef yesterday. I was anchored by a blind and caught a small bass. Two assholes in a big aluminum hull came trolling at me real fast. I stopped casting close to the blind so they wouldn't see me catch another fish. They stopped fishing about 40 yards from me and kept their boat turned so they can watch me fish. They stayed there for a good 30 minutes then went to the downwind side of the blind of me about 60 yards from the blind. I took out my phone and pretended to talk to someone saying I only caught one small bass. As soon as they heard that they cranked up the trolling motor and went to the next guy fishing and did the same thing. They weren't even fishing, just waiting to jump in someone else's honey hole. As soon as they left, I threw at the blind and caught a 3 pound bass.

them old guys in the lake bouef fish like that. They look for a group of boats in a pile and assume thats where they are biting and head straight for it.

"There's a big discussion on the Toledo Bend Facebook page about this.
If I get to go on my one to two trips a year, I'll keep some to eat. I love eating them.
Anything over 3-4 lbs I usually throw back"
well...... you're doing it the RIGHT way, nothing wrong with that approach!
