my dad calls that the 742 jam master. My grandpa killed the 1982 Baton Rouge Steinmarts big buck contest winner with it. And he was thankful for the semiauto because he missed the first shot then boiler room on the 2nd.

Man I had that gun for a few years, and jam master is what I called it as well...I ended up hating that gun, and traded it soon after.

Browning medallion 30-06. Given to my dad on his 18th birthday in 1960 from his father. Passed down to me on my 18th birthday. Can't wait to give it to my kid. Beautiful gun that's killed a lot of deer

My Remington 870. It was the first gun I bought myself. I've had it for 20 something years and it has never jammed once.

MiNE is a Winchester 1400 20 gauge my Dad bought me when I was 13. It was used so I have no clue how old it is but I'm 57.
Can't tell you how many rabbits and ducks and assorted things I've killed with it. Full choke lightweight and swings great. I use it at least once a year for the annual rabbit hunt

In college, I saved my pennies for a model 70 in 270 Win.

I found a bunch of old Jack O'Connor writings in the Middleton Library and read them when I was supposed to be studying. It proved to be a good decision (buying the 270, not not studying).
It's perfect for whitetail and I don't miss with it. I've had it 27 years.

Dat yat,
Your story sounds a lot like mine. I grew up reading Jack O' Conor's stories in "Outdoor Life". His writings were a really good read. He's largely responsible for me buying the same gun as you after also saving my own money. Nearly 20 yrs ago I transitioned from deer hunting w/ rifles to deer hunting w/ handguns. All my "old faithful" guns were bought my me. They are:
Varmint hunting=Remington XP-100 in 22 BR. This was the first custom gun I bought.
Squirrel hunting-Ruger 77/22 in 22 LR.
Deer hunting-Savage Striker handgun in 308 Win although a Remington XP-100 in 7-08 is making a run at it.

When I was a senior in highschool my parents house was robbed and they took all of our guns. I had my duck gun in my truck which was an 870 at the time and I had my grandfathers citori broken down and hidden. So I guess that's the only one.

A Merkel 147E side by side 12 ga. that was built in 1966. I bought in 1990 and have shot the heck out of it. It hasn't jammed once. They don't make them like that anymore at Merkel.

Winchester Model 70, pre-64 in 30-06,
gun was made in 1940's. My Dad bought it from a FBI agent in the early 50's, He passed it to me several years ago.
