The dude stole beer from a store and was hiding out in that restaurant. It was a BB gun the dude had painted up like a Glock or something. I remember reading about it. Officer who shot him wasn't charged with anything.

Definitely some major tactical errors made by those officers. Glad they were able to overcome them and live to tell the story.

They had him caught off guard and in an area away from the customers. They should have at the very minimum conducted a terry pat frisk and obtained ID before exiting the bathroom. Preferably they should have gained physical control of him and cuffed him on the spot.
