I dont know. I think the 11 year old needs to learn when you shoot a deer in the freaking leg you screwed up big time As a father I would not give my son the option in this scenario

Agree 100%. And I'll add, If I did not kill the deer I would not want to take it from the person who did.

what would you tell people? Hey, this is the deer I shot in the leg and someother guy finished it off. cool story bro.

exactly.

Taking an animal life is something pretty serious, if the kid is not mature enough to handle the disappointment of missing or messing up...maybe he shouldn't be killing (attempting to kill) things.

this isn't about the kid and the property owner...the dad should have handled this situation in a positive way...missed opportunity for the father to give a life lesson to his son...

Rifle season is short in WI. I have friends up there that go years without getting a buck. I can understand the land owner not wanting to give it up especially when the kid just hit it in the leg.

Landowner should have offered the kid the leg.

if that landowner hadn't shot it, then the boy probably wouldn't even have "just a picture of the the deer"

I get that, but..

They wouldn't even know, I would have just said "aw man it looks like I shot him low and hit the leg. Well done buddy!" and let him get all excited and whatnot.

My kid gets a participation trophy every time he goes hunting.

The worst thing in the whole story is telling the newspaper.

It would be a pretty epic set up for making fun of him at deer camp when he gets older and cockier.

I have killed plenty deer and would have given it to the kid, after a shooting lesson.

But i cant argue with their decision.

I totally agree but we are talking about an 11 year old kid. I would have given it up in a second.

I've always went by the rule of first blood. More times than not the second hunter would never had a chance had the first hunter not wounded it. Plus it's a kid and not a monster buck. What gratification do you get from killing a kids wounded buck? What a douche bag!

They have two weeks of rifle season up there, pretty sure. When I lived in Milwaukee the schools were all closed for the first week. That's serious business up there. Why not split the deer with the family

It's not even a very big buck. Technically it should go to the landowner, but anyone with a heart would have just let the kid have it.
