I'm a dick because I told someone not to come on my land without permission or am I a dick because I gave the kid the deer that I finished off on my property or am I a dick because i offered to clean the deer for the kid or let him use my skinning shed? I'm confused I guess I'm a dick. I dont know about you but i would NEVER go onto a neighbors property without explaning the situation. Maybe one day you will be able to buy land instead of leasing it and understand where I'm coming from.

Maybe you're just a dick.

I've got a situation similar to this. Have a distant cousin that is in a club that borders some of my property. A few years ago the timber company cleared it and he built a huge box stand about 50 feet from the border. He then commenced to shoot a box of shells a year at deer. He is probably in his 60s and has never killed a deer before. He says he gets nervous when he tries to shoot them. Luckily it has grown up now so that he can only hunt about a 100 yard stretch that he has lanes cut on.

A few years ago his popped a couple of shots off at a "big deer" that then ran on to my property. He called and we helped him look. Actually followed the trail of the deer running into the woods. No blood anywhere and he said the deer never stopped bounding across the clearing (i.e. never gave the impression of being hit).

as an adult, no way I would take a deer that I had only shot in the leg and someone else killed. However, if it was a kid that had shot it in the leg, no way I would give up seeing the look on his face at killing that deer for a few extra pounds of deer meat. Give the kid the deer. For those of you who say that wouldn't teach the kid a lesson, he is 11 and is learning to hunt. You are a bunch of heartless SOBs if you don't feel bad for him. Do you think this makes him more or less likely to hunt again?

In Alabama,

If I wound a deer or other animal can I cross a property line to retrieve it?

No, you may not cross a property line to retrieve wounded or dead animals without the permission of the landowner. All land is considered posted for the purposes of hunting.

Now if it was the people on the left side of my place, they better call first and then I'll help them get it and let the boy take it all....

But if it's the neighbors on the right, first I'd be surprised that they shot it in the daytime, second I'd be surprised they didn't run over it with one of their 4 wheelers. I'd let it rot before they touched a hair on it.

The fact that the guy even thought of taking that deer from that kid means he is a douche. It's pretty embarrassing.

On a side note, I know/knew a guy that shot a basket 8 on a WMA and then another guy shot him as well, about 150 yards away, also with a bow. Both had decent shots, and the deer died soon after the second arrow. There wasn't a bunch of bullshite about it, they talked and shook hands, forget how it ended up. There was a news paper article about it

How is it "taking" when the kid's shot was non-fatal?

I'm more offended that the dad went and whined to the local news station that the landowner actually took the deer when he won a coin toss, that everyone agreed upon... if you say let's flip a coin or paper rock scissors for it and then you lose.... it's over, you lost.

Meh. I'd rather watch a kid get all excited about a buck. I don't really care about the meat though. I'd let him have it

I should have used "not giving the deer to the kid"

I agree with can't believe that the dad went to the news about the shite. Embarrassing turn of events for all
