I'm having trouble finding the actual law, but all I'm seeing for Louisiana is you can go onto private property unarmed to retrieve dogs or livestock. Not sure about game.

Regardless, this doesn't matter. My deer don't walk brah.

Dogs or livestock can be owned. Deer cannot, so that is most likely the difference.

I don't know about tracking wounded game, but I know for a fact that you can go on another's property in search of a lost dog as long as you are unarmed, or your weapon is unloaded.

Yup. " (6) The owner of a domestic animal while in the sole process of merely retrieving his domestic animal from immovable property and not having a firearm or other weapon on his person."

So, bring your dog to the fence line, then send his arse out to the deer. Retrieve dog and deer at same time.

Just last week I heard a funny story about adjoining landowners. One farmer has a shite load of timber, the next door neighbor has a shite load of AG land. The timber dude was bitching about the AG guys shooting all HIS deer. The AG says, they may very well be YOUR deer but I have been feeding the hell out of them and plan to kill everyone of them I see...

The whole my deer thing gets annoying as frick. If you want your own deer, put up a high fence. Otherwise accept the challenges that come with fair chase.

Some people are into the sport for the wrong reasons I feel.

My neighbors already do that before they shoot the deer.

Doesn't matter if you wouldn't have shot it, he shot it on his property

I hope you wound a big one and it runs to that kid's stand, he finshes it off, texts you pics of that giant, and tells you to go frick yourself

I would at least split with the kid, if the dad was being cool about it, however I would point out that it was a non-fatal shot and that all it would have done is injure the deer.

If the dad is a dick then tell the GTFO and learn to shoot.

Either way someone needs to point out shot selection. Way to many people never learn this.

If I was the other hunter, I would give the deer to the kid. If I was the dad I would say tough titty and bring him back to the range

I've seen WAY bigger misses than that.

What if the landowner hadn't been there to shoot the deer though? This kid would of had to been tracking this deer with a loaded rifle on his property to get it. Kid needs to learn to put a deer down before he starts griping about not getting a deer.

Not necessarily. Deer could've died eventually.

Like if a coyote caught it or EHD or starvation. That shot however won't kill it. This coming from a guy who has made a bad shot or two. I learned little from marginal shots that I recovered. The one I didn't taught me a hell of a lot more.

He did not kill it, is was not 'his'. He could've just as easily clean missed, then it got shot on the other property. Does he lay claim because he shot at it?

I think the Dad tracks it up, sees the non fatal shot then shakes the landowners hand and walks off.

If I am the landowner, I probably offer the deer to them, but under no circumstances can I imagine accepting the deer if I am the father.
